The output images from my OfficeJet 8015e at 600 dpi are extremely jagged and poor quality.
See those two images: One is from the HP scanner, the other is from a CanoScan 700F. The difference is obviously in (great) favor of the CanoScan device.
Please do not give me the automatic responces to clean the glass etc. If I can operate a Canon device with no problem and great results, I am not the stupid kind that would not know the difference between a scan done on an dirty glass and an actual scanner problem.

Hi @Dehen1959,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with scan quality from your printer.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, I'm here to help you today.
Please follow the below steps to troubleshoot the issue.
1. Adjust Scanner Software Settings
- Color Mode and Compression: Ensure that no aggressive compression or automatic image enhancements (e.g., "Text Enhancement") are enabled in the HP scanning software.
- Output Format: If saving as a JPEG, switch to TIFF or PNG for lossless quality.
- Manual DPI Setting: Even though you've set it to 600 DPI, try 300 DPI or 1200 DPI to see if there's a proportional improvement in clarity. Sometimes HP scanners interpret 600 DPI poorly due to internal scaling quirks.
2. Scanner Calibration
- Recalibration Process: In the HP Smart app or printer settings, look for an option to recalibrate the scanner. This process can resolve issues caused by misaligned sensors.
- Firmware Update: Verify the printer firmware is up-to-date in case the scanner module benefits from any bug fixes.
3. Use Different Scanning Software
- Alternative Software: Try third-party software like NAPS2 (free and highly configurable) or VueScan (paid, but excellent for maximizing scanner performance). These applications may bypass limitations of the default HP software.
4. Hardware Limitations
- The OfficeJet 8015e is a general-purpose device and not specialized for high-precision scanning like the CanoScan 700F, which is specifically designed for image quality. While it supports 600 DPI, the hardware sensor and interpolation methods may not be as capable. If high-quality scans are frequent and critical, relying on the CanoScan might remain the better option.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a great day ahead!

Well, I'm more than a bit disappointed to learn that I would have been better off not buying an all in one instead of a dedicated printer to go along with my scanner.
The solution seems to be to rearrange my office to make room for my CanoScan.
I'm tot going to spend a lot of time to try to tweak a device that should be able to do a good job right off the box.
So, Like I said, I'm disappointed. I'll be more careful in the future before I buy new equipment.

Hi @Dehen1959,
I'm sorry to hear you're feeling disappointed. All-in-one devices often promise convenience but can fall short in specialized tasks compared to dedicated devices.
I appreciate your efforts in contacting HP community support.
Take care and have a great day ahead!
