Officejet 901o is  brand new. I want to copy newspaper clippings.  Unless I spend some time guessing where to put the clipping, the copy is not correct.

Copy

I agree.

That is, beyond knowing which corner to place the time on the flatbed, the size of the copied content will reflect any Resize option.  There are limited Resize choices and the placement is important.

For anything needing extra care and attention, consider using a Scan app or program instead.

Example - EWS - Copy Defaults

Eliminate the need to select an exact placement on the flatbed - Use an app or software to Scan the content.

Depending on your Operating System / version and the application you are using, set the content boundaries manually.

For example,

If the application does not provide a method to reliably detect the content edges,

then

Set the Scan Area to "Entire Scan Area"

Example - HP Smart - Windows - Scan - Photo / Import photo file - Menu setup

HP_Smart_W10_Scan_Photo_Screen_8HP_Smart_W10_Scan_Photo_Screen_8

What's better?

If using Windows, install the Full Feature Software

Use HP Scan

In HP Scan, set the Scan Area (for Save as JPEG) as "Detect Photos"

If scanning more than one piece of paper on the flatbed at a time, separate each "photo" or piece of paper by about an inch so the printer can detect the edges of each paper.

Example - HP Scan - Save as JPEG - Main menu > More > Image
