Welcome to HP support community.

Which operating system is installed on the computer to which this printer is connected?

Which application are you using to scan?

Meanwhile:

If you are using this printer on a Windows 10 computer,

  1. Change settings in HP Scan before you complete a scan job.
  2. Selecting a shortcut and making sure settings are correct for the scan job
  3. Select a Scan Shortcut, such as Save as PDF.
  4. Select the Show Viewer After Scan check box.

  5. If your printer has both a document feeder and scanner glass, select Flatbed under Source.

  6. Make sure the other settings such as Page Size and Color Mode are correct for your scan job.

  7. Click More to change advanced settings, such as Resolution (ppi), Orientation, Destination, and File Name.

I hope that helps.
