HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 "HP Smart" Scan Multiple Pages Crashes - How to Update Program and Drivers?

How to I know if I have the most current and bug-free version of the Windows 10 "HP Smart" app?
The downloads website does not offer an explanation to get updated drivers or scanning software updates. Please see https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-pro-8710-all-in-one-printer-series/790...
The HP Smart program does not have an "update" option.
Problem:
Using the Windows 10 "App" HP Smart version 122.1.778.0 to scan multiple pages from HP OfficeJet Pro 8710. A single scanned page works, but if I try to add pages eventually it crashes randomly and I lose everything I have scanned up to that point. Scanning individual pages each to their own file is obviously not desired.
I am hoping an updated driver or application will solve this issue.

Hi @geogherkins,
I'd like to help!
Try the below suggestions-
1)Uninstall HP Smart
2)Install all the available Windows updates
If it is been a while since you updated your Windows, that is the main reason why Windows says your HP printer driver is unavailable. Here are the steps how to do a Windows Update to install all accessible operating system update.
If you are accessing Windows 10, then these steps are for you.
- Hit the Start menu and write an update. After that, click on the “Check for updates” option.
- Tap on the “Check for updates” option.
- After clicking on that option, Windows will install the updates automatically.
- When Windows completes all its updates, start your computer again and attempt to print a file to check if your printer works.
3) try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
4)Reinstall HP Smart
If the error persists, install the HP Easy Start (under the Software and Utility tab )and use HP Scan to scan a document
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I don't think you understand the question.
I am trying to get the latest/fixed version of the HP Smart program, and unfortunately, there is nothing on HP's website (that I can find anyway) providing a revisions list, problems fixed, release notes, etc. I want to see these details to understand if what I have already installed (dated 12/8/2020, so, very recent) is current, and also see how active HP's developers are updating this program. Most programs these days have an "automatic update" feature to notify you whether there is something new available, but I'm not seeing that here. This program seems to be installed from Microsoft's "app store" and the technical details are not obvious.
I am intrigued by the 2nd part of your answer, to use the HP Easy Start software (available on the link you provided, thanks)
HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software
12.2.5163.01 9.3 MB Dec 16, 2020
I'll give that a try. Maybe better than suffering the inconvenience of Microsoft's app store!
Well, I did that, and all it does is install the same Microsoft app store "HP Smart" program (after attempting to up-sell me on an ink subscription!) but then provides a menu of options (screen shot below) including something I overlooked before, an option for "Full software and drivers" (which I am trying).

The smart app updates happen automatically, yes we do not an option to update the app manually..
I will request more information from our engineering team and get back to you.
Were you able to install the full-featured drivers?
Let me know!

Installation of the "Full Software and Drivers" results in new program folder "HP" and new program item "HP OfficeJet Pro 8710". I used the new program item to scan a multiple page document. It was successful and did not crash unexpectedly. I am guessing this is an improvement over the Windows 10 "HP Smart" applet from the Windows Store. Not sure why there are two ways to do the same thing, one that does not work well; Hewlett Packard and Microsoft should re-think this! Thanks for your help.
