Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).
Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am working with a small firm whole recently purchased 2 9015e printers online. I would not have recommended HP Printers but I was not consulted.

They want to set up Scan to Email to be able to scan items to their email accounts or to clients.

They use Google Workplaces for the email.

I have set up an App Password, and enabled and set up the assorted Google bits that need to be set up for that.

I'm using the Google/G-Mail smtp server and have tried both of the port options along with the settings options in the HP EWS under the scan to email.

It does not work. Why? All I get is a vague error message about not being able to connect. There is nothing in the EWS log.

I have tired to speak with HP Customer Service about this and get lost in the absolutely abysmal phone support.  Between being disconnected and sent to the wrong department. It is infuriating.

Added, Google is doing away with App Passwords on May 30th, 2022 in favor of a "more secure"  Sign-in with Google/OAuth option.

They say they will be extending it for those that use Google Workplaces but do not specify how long. One person I did manage to speak with said that HP currently had no plan in place for this for the 9015e (or presumably any of their printers) and are "waiting to see what Google does".

Interestingly it seems the 9015, the predecessor to the 9015e, was "cloud based" and had an option to use the Sign-In with Google to set up scanning to Email and Google Drive.  It of course seems to have been discontinued.

Hi,

Please open the following link and login to the same account as you set for the printer.
https://myaccount.google.com/security

Within the Signing in to Google section, be sure to turn on "2-Step Verification, if it is disabled be sure to enable 2-Step verification":

https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185839?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid

Next, create and use an App-Specific Password with the printer:
https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en

Once completing the changes update the outgoing email profile password to use the App Specific Password and then click Save and Test to ensure the problem has been resolved.

For **bleep**, use below SMTP settings:

SMTP server: smtp.**bleep**.com

PORT 465/587

Always use secure connection (SSL/TLS) - check the option
Server requires authentication: yes

Type your email address as the user

Copy the App Password created as the Password.

Now click Save and Test, please let me know what exact error message or behavior occur following the test if it fails.

Shlomi

As I said, I did all of that.  It does not work.

My suspicion is that this is a bug on either HP or Google's end in relation to the coming departure of App Passwords.

Unrelated... Why does HP "bleep" the word "**bleep**" (G-Mail)?

Due to spammers trying to refer users to 3rd party solutions, email servers are likely censors for the user's protection on this matter.

What exact error  message or behavior return? as much as it vogue please clarify the exact error to get some better understanding. ( It does not work. Why? All I get is a vague error message about not being able to connect. There is nothing in the EWS log,)

Is the printer connected via wireless connection or Ethernet?

Do you try using port 465 or 587? can you see same error with both ports or may you see any difference there?

Do you have 2-Step verification enabled for your Google account? as App Passwords can be generated for both 2-Step Verification or Sign in with Google, while only the first option would likely work with the printer.

Also, the error may occur due to any local network problem and not related to the printer or your Google Account, therefore please provide as much details as you can to get some better understanding.

Shlomi

I forget the exact wording but it is exceptionally vague and says it can not connect.

If you read my post I note that I have all things need to enable App Passwords though Google Workspaces and have tried both smtp ports with the all the security combinations available though the EWS. We are using ethernet.

There is nothing else to report about it. You know, what I know.
