My mom is trying to scan from HP OfficeJet Pro Premier 9010 to computer using macOS 14.5, saving and then attaching it to an email. Is the HP Scan and Capture app being cancelled have anything to do with it?

I don't use Mac so I'm having trouble trying to help her over the phone. If anyone has step-by-step instructions, I would appreciate it very much.

Thank you!

  • Ensure the printer is connected to the same network as the Mac.
  • Verify the printer's network settings by printing a network configuration page from the printer’s control panel.

Install HP Smart Software:

  • Download and install the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store if it’s not already installed.

Configure HP Smart Software

Open HP Smart:

  • Launch the HP Smart app from the Applications folder or Dock.

Add Your Printer:

  • If the printer isn’t listed, click on the “+” button to add it.
  • Follow the prompts to add the printer to the HP Smart app.

Configure Scan Settings:

  • Click on the “Scan” tile in the HP Smart app.
  • Select the desired scan settings (e.g., file format, resolution).

Perform a Test Scan:

  • Click “Scan” and see if the scan completes successfully.
  • Save the scanned document to your desired location.

Use Preview for Scanning

If HP Smart isn't working, you can use the built-in Preview app:

Open Preview:

  • Open the Preview app from the Applications folder.

Start Scan:

  • Go to File > Import from Scanner or Import from Printer.
  • Select the HP OfficeJet Pro Premier 9010.

Configure and Scan:

  • Choose your scan settings in the preview window.
  • Click “Scan” and save the file to your Mac.

Check System Preferences

Verify Scanner Access:

  • Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy tab.
  • Select Files and Folders and make sure the HP Smart app or Preview has access to files and folders.
