I have an HP Officejet 7310 All-in-One printer that will print and scan, but will no longer copy.  Can anyone help me with this issue?

One other thing to check - in the front panel press the copy Menu button, select Paper Type, OK, Plain Paper, OK then press Start Copy Black.

What happens when you try to copy?  Are the prints incorrect, or is there an error message or ???  I would suggest starting with the document here, especially printing and evaluating the test page as shown in step three of this document.

I can print a test page, but when I try to copy a document it is very slow with the copy phase and then even slower "printing" out a blank piece of paper.

There are a few possibilities.  First, please print a test page as shown in step three of this document.  Do black and all three colors print properly in the test page?

Next I would suggest scanning (not copying) a document to your PC.  If the scan is blank then there is likely a hardware problem with the scanner hardware (also used for copying).

Are you copying from the scanner glass or through the automatic document feeder?

I am able to print the test pages and I can also scan.

Just to confirm - both black and color print properly on the test page?

When you are copying and get blank pages are you doing this from the flatbed glass or the document feeder?  Are you trying to copy black or color?

Bob Headrick,

Thank you so much!!  I can now copy by selecting plain paper.  Don't know what makes this work, as I have always copied previously using automatic, but I am just estatic to be able to copy again!!   Thank you!  Thank you!   Thank you!

OK, I am glad the problem is resolved.  It may be that the sensor that is used to detect the paper type has become fogged with aerosol and the printer is incorrectly thinking the paper type is photo paper.

You could clean this with a damp Q-tip, it is located on the right side of the carriage (the thing that holds the ink cartridges) at the bottom and near the back.  The sensor can be reached by turning on the printer, then open the lid as you would to change a cartridge.  Next unlpug the printer (without turning it off).  This will allow the carriage to be moved slightly to the left, where you can then gently clean the undersideof the sensor.

Alternately just select the proper paper type when printing and copying.
