Hi @GR97,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Officejet 4620 scanner not being recognized by your computer, follow these troubleshooting steps:

Step 1: Check Connections

  • Ensure the printer is properly connected to your computer via USB or network connection.
  • If using USB, try a different USB port or cable.
  • If using network, ensure the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.

Step 2: Restart Devices

  • Restart your computer and printer to reset their connections.

Step 3: Update or Reinstall Drivers  Software and Drivers for HP Officejet 4620 e-All-in-One Printer series

Windows:

  1. Go to the HP Support website and download the latest driver for the HP Officejet 4620.
  2. Install the driver and follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Alternatively, open Device Manager, find the printer under “Imaging devices” or “Printers,” right-click, and select “Update driver.”

Mac:

  1. Open "System Preferences" and select "Printers & Scanners."
  2. Remove the printer from the list and re-add it.
  3. Download and install the latest driver from the HP Support website.

Step 4: Use HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows) HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. This tool can diagnose and fix scanning issues.

Step 5: Check HP Software

  • Ensure that the HP software suite (HP Smart or HP Scan) is installed and up-to-date.
  • Open the software and attempt to scan from there.

Step 6: Windows Scanner Settings

  1. Go to “Control Panel” -> “Devices and Printers.”
  2. Right-click on your HP Officejet 4620 and select “Scan properties.”
  3. Ensure the scanner is set up correctly and try a test scan.

Step 7: Mac Scanner Settings

  1. Open “Image Capture” from the Applications folder.
  2. Select your HP Officejet 4620 from the list of devices.
  3. Try to initiate a scan.

Step 8: Check Firewall/Antivirus Settings

  • Sometimes firewall or antivirus software can block scanner communication. Temporarily disable these and try scanning again.

Step 9: Reinstall the Printer

  1. Remove the printer from your system (via “Devices and Printers” on Windows or “Printers & Scanners” on Mac).
  2. Reinstall the printer using the latest drivers from the HP Support website.
