HP officejet 5740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP Officejet 5740 stopped scanning to email, receiving error "Server Connection Error".  Have owned this printer for over 2 years and this option has worked since purchased, even scanned several documents to email last week and it worked as advertised.  Today (8/29/16) tired scanning to email and will not work!!!  I have tried restoring factory settings, tried resetting ip address and DSN per other forum suggestions and nothing is working.  An assistance would be appreciated.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.  We understand that the Scan to Email is not working, we have informed the relevant team to look into this.

Hopefully, it should be resolved soon.

In the meantime, one suggestion is to Scan as a jpeg or document and attach it to the email.

If you need help on scanning as a jpeg or document, the following relevant resource would be useful.

Hope that helps!

@Greenturtle,

Unfortunately you did not provide an answer short of saying to just scan it, save it, and email it.

I too have the same issue of the original poster and it has been working for a while and suddenly last week sometime it stopped working.

Are you saying there is an overall HP issue with this?

I also put in to the device a manual DNS server of 8.8.8.8 and secondary of 4.2.2.1 but the scan to email still fails.

Saw that the device was set to auto-update....maybe a firmware update killed it?

Please provide some details other than a work-around, we know how to do a basic scan.  We need the scan to email.

weird that two completely differnet companies (me and the original poster are having the same exact situation)

Hi @Grogthefrog

Thanks for your feedback.

The technical team is looking into this.   We tried "Scan to Email" on the HP Officejet Pro 8730 and it was working as designed.

Hope that helps!

I have the same exact issue with the offiejet 5740. It was working perfectly to scan documents to email, but now it has suddenly stopped and is giving the error message "server connection error". I have not changed any settings on my side nor upsdated any software on my Mac.

I think this is an HP problem and you should be providing better responses than "Scabning for Dummies". That is just impolite. I have been scanning successfully for years. Please advise what you have changed on the HP server side and fix it and provide us with a solution!!!

Thanks.

Well that is pretty STUPID on your part to say  "We tried "Scan to Email" on the HP Officejet Pro 8730 and it was working as designed."     The problem is with the 5740 printer, so using an all together different one is NOT going to help.  Maybe you should look into this a little more.
