Driver Check gives a RED (not OK) indication and the utility halts. The following message is given:

"The scan driver is unable to communicate with the Product"

I have removed all HP software and installed the latest version.

I have reset the printer numerous times.

I have removed and reinstalled the printer.

I have unplugged the Printer then plugged it back in and restarted the computer.

Problem has been solved.  HPNetworkCommunicator.exe was conflicting with the Driver for my Logitech Web Camera.  The Application causing the fault WAS... HPNetworkCommunicator.exe ...

Might be a great idea if HP were to correct the bug

Hi @GrumpyUserAgain,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues while scanning from computer on your HP Office Jet printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

Splendid effort and fabulous description of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.

In this scenario, I would suggest here is to try these steps here:

Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to follow all the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Printers - Network Scanner Connection Error (Windows)

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Your suggestions have been performed multiple times.  Unit has always been plugged directly into AC outlet.

Scan to computer only fails in Windows 10 while Print, FAX and Copy work just fine.  As stated before, the Scan to Computer works just great in both Linux Mint and Ubuntu Linux.

If I were to hazard a guess, I would be inclined to suggest it may be a Windows 10 driver problem.  Is it possible that you could confirm or reject this possibility??

YooHoo.......... Anybody out there?  Have we given up already?  Scanning is not gettin' any better.

This problem actually occured following the latest Windows 10 major update to 1709.  Prior to that the HP Scan to Computer in Windows was working as it should.

Seems as though neither Microsoft nor HP is the least bit interested in solving the problem.  As usual, it's left to the consumer.

@GrumpyUserAgain

Hi,

as @Jeet_singh is out of the office today, I'm replying to you. I appreciate your efforts and patience.

This looks more f a drivers issue. because the issue started after the latest Windows 0 update.

Let us uninstall the printer drivers from the root level and then reinstall them. The following steps will help:

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • You may download and install the printer drivers from this HP link.

You may also update the firmware on your HP printer. The firmware can be downloaded and installed via this link. The printer needs to be restarted after the firmware is successfully updated.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Please feel free to keep me posted. Cheers! 🙂

Thanks for your response.  However, all the suggestions you make have been tried multiple times and have resulted in zero positive results.

I HAVE removed all HP software and installed the latest version(s).   More than once

I HAVE removed and reinstalled the printer. (Devices and Printers)     More than once

I HAVE unplugged the Printer then plugged it back in and restarted the computer. (Unit is NOT plugged into a surge protected outlet or extension)                More than once

I HAVE removed drivers from Device Manager and reinstalled.    More than once

Using HP Print and Scan Doctor tells me I have the latest drivers and firmware

PLEASE understand.

I CAN perform a Scan to Computer using Ubuntu Linux  16.04 with the XSane scanning software.

I CAN perform a Scan to Computer using Mint Linux 18.2 also using XSane scanning software.

I CAN perform a Scan to Computer from my wife"s Windows 7 Computer.

I CAN perform a Scan and save to Computer using Printer Home Page (EWS) in HP Printer Assistant.

Also, I "CAN" FAX, COPY and PRINT from Windows 10 with NO problems.

If I try to scan from the printer control panel I can see my Wife's computer (Windows 7) BUT my Windows 10 computer (the computer in question) does NOT show up in the list of available devices.  Again, this points to Windows 10.

This appears to be strictly Scan to Computer from Windows 10 problem.

Prior to the latest Windows 10 major update, the Scan to Computer worked just fine for more than a year and that period even included an upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10.  All this to say that this is a VERY RECENT problem.

Thanking you in advance for your support.

Hi GrumpyUser Again,

You have pointed a finger at the fault of HPNetworkCommunicator.exe conflicting for the scanner not working, but not how to solve it..  Please can you advise.

My scanner worked fine till recently, but I THINK following upgrading to Windows 10  ver1903 it is not funnctioning. It appears to be a driver problem as after running Fix Scanner in HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.2.1 both  "Driver check" and "Device Status" show in Red.

Device Manager also shows a problem with Unknown Device x 2 - the first when attempting to automtaicelly update is shown as FAX - HP Officejet 6700 then an error message.

Many thanks.

John
