HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus all-in-one
macOS 10.14 Mojave

Since upgrading to Mojave 10.14.1, scanning from printer to computer isn't working.  I thought it was a network issue since I now have 2 networks due to another problem.  But when I made sure the printer and computer were on the same network, it still didn't work. I am getting this error message: The action "Scan items from HP Devices" encountered an error: NSWindow drag regions should only be invalidated on the Main Thread!"  Can you help please?

A warm welcome to HP forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

Removing/re-installing the printer software and then enabling Scan to Computer may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1.) Turn off your Mac, Printer and Router.

2.) Unplug the power from the back of router, wait for 10 -15 seconds.

3.) Connect the power cable back to router, turn on the router first. Wait till the router to initialize.

4.) Turn on Printer and Mac.

5.) Go to 123.hp.com/setup, and then click Download.

6.) After the software downloads, open HP Easy Start.

7.) Click File, and then select Uninstall HP Software... from the menu.

Select Uninstall HP Software...

8.) Read any warnings that display, and then click Continue.

9.) When prompted, type your administrator user name and password.

10.) HP Uninstaller removes all HP printer software previously installed.

11.) Click Set Up New Device, and then follow the instructions to install the printer with HP EasyStart.

Once the printer is installed, use the steps below to enable Scan to Computer

1.) On your Mac, click Finder, click Applications, click the Hewlett-Packard or HP folder, then double-click HP Utility.

2.) Under Scan Settings, click Scan to Computer, then make sure the Enable Scan to Computer check box is selected.

3.) Try to scan.

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks for responding, but before I try this I have to tell you what I found.  There is an article which states that HP no longer supports my printer due to the Apple Update to Mojave.  It does print, as it printed the settings for me when I reconnected via the setup wizard.  The problem remains with the scanning to computer.  I'd hate to go through this procedure if what I found is true and there's no way this will resolve the problem.  I am concerned I may not be able to even print, which I can at the moment.  Is anyone besides me having this issue?  Naturally, HP wants to sell printers and that was their suggestion, which is not convenient at this time.

HP Officejet 8600 is AirPrint compatible. If in case the steps I suggested in my previous post fails. We can always setup the printer using Apple AirPrint.

I am having the exact same message "The action “Scan Items from HP Devices” encountered an error: “NSWindow drag regions should only be invalidated on the Main Thread!”" and failure to scan from HP Photosmart 6510 to MacBook Pro Mac OS Mojave 10.14.1. It will not scan if stand at the printer and press buttons, but it will, I have found, scan if I control it from the HP Scan application

Yes, I found this to be true.  Luckily, after previous attempts, I called back Apple again and got someone with a lot more knowledge.  He advised me to get there through System Preferences > Printer and Scanners > Scan > Open scanner then go to Finder to look for the scan.   He also suggested I go to the HP website to check for any new drivers in about 6 months.

HP is suggesting to those of us with HP 8600 Pro to buy a new printer!  I don't mind updating my equipment but when it's

financially feasible to me.  There is nothing wrong with the printer itself but the scanning process since the upgrade to Mohave.  None of the opther upgrades posed this problem.

I tried reinstalling the drivers as per the HP emplotees instructions...and it still won't scan.  How do I set up my printer for Apple airprint as you mentione here?

HP Recommended

Tried resetting everything, including reinstall for printer, but my computer tells me that the scan app is "not a valid download."

Same.  I would also like to know how to reset the scan function using Air Print.  It's great that this HP product works after 5 years, but disappointing it does not keep up with Mac OS updates.  I hate to buy a replacement for a functional printer.

Same here.  The scan app download is not recognized as a valid download.
