HP Officejet Pro 8025e missing scan to email from the control panel

Has anyone figured out how to get scan to email working on this device?  The option is missing from the control panel.  The only suggestion I've found is to use HP shortcuts which seems to require connecting the device to HP for monitoring ink, etc.

• Disconnect from Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection before downloading.

• Turn on Wi-Fi on your computer or mobile device and connect to your network. If the computer is connected to the network with an Ethernet cable, temporarily disconnect the cable and use the Wi-Fi connection during the setup.

• HP Smart requires that you sign into the application using your HP Account credentials.

• When working through a browser to access HP Smart, be sure you have Cookies enabled.  If cookies are enabled and you are having trouble, clear Cache and Cookies.   And / Or … Try a different browser – assign that browser as the Default. (Note:  Chrome not working?  Use / Assign a different default browser.)

Thank you for the detailed response.  Yes, by "control panel" I mean the printer's touch display and/or the EWS.  Unfortunately I need a device that supports digital send via SMTP without any supporting workstation applications.  The device sits in a common area where medical personnel will scan to email reports and forms to schools and other medical offices.   It is replacing an older HP MFP that performed this task for years without any additional software or workstation interaction.

If there is a newer (or older) firmware that adds that functionality, please advise.  Otherwise, I'm going to have to find another device.

No, there is no firmware update to change this printer so it supports smtp.

The OfficeJet Pro 90xx series support smtp.

The current top-of-line OfficeJet Pro 9025e also supports single pass duplex scanning.

A small but "can be" significant feature that saves a tiny bit of time for each double sided page scanned.

I have the "older" 2019 HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 version of this printer.

It's been a solid workhorse so far.  No, I don't run this printer in a medical office..  Smiling.

Caveat that recently showed up...

If you are using Google mail service, as of 30-May-2022, the oft-used "Less Secure Apps" setting is no longer available.

This changes the way the permissions have to be set up to send to use g-mail profile addresses.
