Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

HP OfiicejetPro 8710
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

When I try to scan from my HP Envy laptop, the scan dialogue box won't open. I can open the HP Printer Assistant, and when I click on "Scan" I see the options, but when I click or double-click on the "Scan" option the dialogue box doesn't open. In addition, if I scan directly from the printer/scanner the file doesn't open on my laptop as it used to do. I ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor twice, and both times it told me that everything is connected and working perfectly. I found instructions in the HP Community to download an "extended scan" feature which I did, but it's not for my model, and it only partially works (better than nothing). It  opens a dialogue box with blank options. Although I can scan and save, I can only scan one page at a time. I used to be able to create multi-page scans. I have not tried downloading new drivers or calling HP support yet, but after this post it's my next step. Is anyone else having this problem? If so, have you found a solution?

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

Can you try using HP Smart app?  Download from Microsoft Store the HP Smart app and add the printer or you can use this link:

https://support.hp.com/sg-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-pro-8710-all-in-one-printer-series/790...

HP Smart has a scan and print function as well.

Once that works, you can try to uninstall and reinstall the HP FULL software solution from this link:

https://support.hp.com/sg-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-officejet-pro-8710-all-in-one-printer-...

This resource will show you how to uninstall and reinstall.

Hope that helps!

I am the author of this original post. Not long after the post, I received contact through this forum to send my information to an HP email address,  with my phone number, and someone from HP would call me. (Note that I just checked and that post isn't here.) I formerly thought I was reasonably astute, but foolishly trusted the HP name. I stupidly replied with my phone number and received a call. I stupidly went on to let the person have access to my laptop - thankfully I don't think he did anything dangerous, but I have no way of knowing that. After looking at very little, he said that the repair would be complicated and long (2 hours) and offered that support, but only if I would pay $50 for that support. I declined at that point because no one from HP had asked me for money in the past, and suddenly I realized that this could be a scammer. Since that call, I've gotten two more calls from people claiming to be from HP. I am now blocking those numbers. I had seen the scammer message, but it didn't say that they could reach people via email through this forum. Please be aware that scammers can find ways to reach out to you via this forum, DON'T be a dolt  like me, and DON'T give out any information!

Hi @CBom

Do be cautious of anyone claiming to be from HP and offering help with payment.

If in doubt, please click on "Flag post" and a HP moderator will get in touch with you.

Thanks.
