Hi, my HP Photosmart 5510 will not scan colors authentically. It seems much brighter than it should be. Cream colored paper turns into white colored paper. Much of the image that is scanned is also kind of faded in a "its too bright" sort of way.
I have installed a few other scanning software, including one that can save in TIFF format. Why the regular program does not allow that is beyond me. I have tried different resolutions and I have tried toggling the optimize photo. Nothing changes it from being too bright.

Hi @MinaRenfield,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing color and brightness issues with your HP Photosmart 5510 scanner. There could be several reasons for this problem, and here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.
Calibrate your scanner:
- Check if your scanner has a calibration tool or option in the settings. Calibrating the scanner can help ensure accurate color reproduction.
- Refer to your scanner's manual or HP's support resources for guidance on calibration.
Update scanner drivers:
- Ensure that you have the latest drivers for your scanner installed. Outdated drivers may cause compatibility issues.
- Visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your Photosmart 5510.
Use different scanning software:
- Since you mentioned trying other scanning software, continue experimenting with different programs to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to the HP software.
Adjust advanced settings:
- Look for advanced settings in your scanning software that allow you to manually adjust color, contrast, and brightness settings. Experiment with these settings to find the best configuration for accurate color reproduction.
Check the scanning environment:
- Ensure that the lighting conditions in the room where you're scanning are consistent. Extreme or uneven lighting can affect the way colors are captured.
Check paper type settings:
- Make sure that the paper type setting in your scanning software matches the actual paper you're using. Different paper types can affect color reproduction.
Save in different formats:
- If your scanning software allows you to save in different formats, try saving the scanned images in formats like TIFF or PNG to see if it makes a difference. These formats typically preserve more color information than JPEG.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
