I have seen several other threads with very similar problems, but figured I would start a new one because many of them were on older operating systems. I have an HP Photosmart C4180 All-in-One printer/scanner. After a reboot of the computer, the scan-to-PC options available on the printer's menu (Scan Menu button, then DOC TO PDF etc) all disappear. The only options that appear are "Scan and reprint" and "Scan to memory card." However, I know the PC still recognizes the printer because printing still works, and I see the printer listed in Device Manager -> Printers. If I reinstall the printer's drivers then the scan-to-PC options reappear. Obviously this is annoying because I either have to leave my PC on all the time, or reinstall the drivers every time I want to scan something. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi @bfin1 ,
Thank you for posting on HP Forums,
The Barachiel is at your service.
I understand you are in need of support,
I'll be glad to help you out, however, for an accurate solution I will need more details:
Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?
When was the last time it worked without these issues?
In the meantime, please try the steps mentioned below:
You could try a complete root level driver re-installation by following the steps given below, If that doesn't help, You may follow this link and try the HP scan and capture app. 🙂
Root Level – printer driver reinstallation:
I recommend you delete the driver and root level and retry, follow the steps below:
In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
Once it is done, follow this link, and install the full feature driver software. 🙂
Keep me posted,

Hi Barachiel,
I believe I have had this problem consistently since upgrading to Windows 10. I had similar problems with Windows 7 but it was not as consistent (it would work for a while before stopping, not stop with every single reboot).
The only step I have tried before is reinstalling the drivers as I described, from THIS link, which is diferent from the link you provided:
however it appears that both links provide the same file, AIO_CDA_NonNet_Full_Win_WW_140_408-4.exe.
The next time I need to scan something I wil ltry the root level driver re-installation as you described.
Thanks,
Ben

Hi -
I followed the driver uninstallation/reinstallation steps you outlined, and unfortunately that still did not work. Same problem as before - immediately after driver installation, I could access the scan to PC options using the printer's built-in menu buttons, but after rebooting my PC, those options disappeared. Note that when I got to step 9 of that process, I did NOT see the HP printer driver listed.
However, the HP Scan and Capture app appears to be working, so I will just use that instead.
