HP LaserJet Professional M1217nfw MFP
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have two  HP LaserJet Professional M1217nfw MFP in my LAN.   In HP Scan Extended, the printers are listed only as " HP LaserJet Professional M1210 Series MFP" and " HP LaserJet Professional M1210 Series MFP" #2".

The two machines have very different and distinct names as printers but I cannot find any way to set names in the HP Scan Extra so I can do so.

How can tell which one is which?

Welcome to the HP support community.

Follow the below steps to change the printer names

  1. Press Windows key and type Devices and Printers in search box and hit enter.
  2. Right-click a printer that need to renamed, and then click Printer properties.
  3. Click the General tab, and then type the new name in the text box.

Let me know how it goes.

Not on point.

As I stated in my original post, the printers already have distinctly different names in Windows.

The problem is in HP Scan Extended, where the two printers have the same "name" save one is "#2".   The names in HP Scan Extended are the generic names for the machines and have nothing to do with their names as printers in Windows.

This might require remote access to your computer to fix the issue.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Let me know how it goes.

This was a complete waste of time.  It took HP 8 days to get around to sending me an invitation to MySUpport.  When I finally got it, I could not complete the registration.  First, the form would not allow me to enter an email address (the boxes were greyed out) and the page display language, time zone pick, Country/Region and preferred communications language lists were empty, all of which are required entries.  Since I could not complete the registration process, I could not save the profile.   It also told me "User Is Deactivated".

Also, the FAQ page says there is supposed to be contact information in case of registration problems.  No, there is not.

I tried doing this in Edge, Chrome and Firefox, all with the same result.
