hp 8600
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

When i scan a sheet on the glass, the scan shows the page with a horizontal line across with a good portion of white space below. Its like the default page size is maybe  legal rather than letter.

I have been using the CROP tool to crop it to 8.5 x 11 (up to this horizontal line)...

I don't see a setting  to set  default scanning to  letter size .

both the HP SCAN program and the HP Quick Scan app is doing this..

I don't remember this happening on my Windows computer (this is the only thing my Windows PC did right ,

thanks

hi..

i finally found the settings for the papersize ! under the 'scanner presets' settings. anyway it was set to A4...

i changed it to LETTER hoping that the change would reset the program if the 'a4' wasnt actually the settting.. and the output is showing as letter size...

so its all fine now...

thanks

Hey @stevie6,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you are having some issues with scanning from your Officejet Pro 8600 to your Mac OSX 10.11 machine. I can help you with that, however I am going to need some clarification first. Please let me know if you have this issue when copying from the main panel. Once I know that I will be better able to assist you.

hi.

i may need some clarification from you as well..  with regards to 'copy from main panel'..  here is my workflow..

1) i load HP Scan (v4.4.1).

2) i place the item on the scanner glass

3) Click on the scan button on the application screen.

4) Then click DONE

5) the scanned item shows up looking like legal sized.

2 things to note:

1) i just downloaded an HP quick scan app from the app store onto my wife's macbook air. it does the same thing.  i cant remember how i got my HP scan app... maybe also from the app store.

2) if i access the scan process from 'PRINTERS AND SCANNERS', on my computer, i click on the scan button and the dialog box which shows up  shows a menu option which allows you to choose paper size ( default is letter size) and everything is OK...

The lightbulb over my head is beginning to brighten.. It may appear that when we are using an app, there is nothing that shows up allowing you to choose the paper size !

On the printer if you use the Copy function, does the page print correctly?

yes it does. the output of the copy is fine. virtually identical to the input sheet scanned on the glass using the printer's COPY function.

Alright, the next step is to uninstall any software related to your printer from your Mac. Once complete, download and install the latest drivers by clicking on this link.

Please let me know the results after following the above.

If uninstalling and reinstalling did not work, that suggests there is a setting within HP Scan that would need to be changed. On the program you should have a setting labelled Paper Size. Make sure this is set to Letter or A4.

Please let me know the results after following the above.
