Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw

Having just purchased a Win11 Lenovo PC, I cannot get HP Scan to connect to my Laserjet via WiFi.  The printing side of things connects, but HP Scan just says the IP address I enter is either incorrect or the device is unsupported.

I can scan using the HP Smart app but that is nowhere near as good as the HP Scan App I had on Win 10.  The Smart App does not give the same choices of type of file nor an option to automatically detect the size of the item being scanned.

Before attempting this, I downloaded the full file from the HP Website.  Any ideas please?

Hi @RG58,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I completely understand how frustrating it must be to lose the functionality you relied on, especially when the HP Scan app gave you more control and flexibility than the HP Smart app. You're not alone in this, and I’m here to help you get back to scanning the way you prefer.

Here's what you can do to resolve the issue:

Step 1: Ensure Full Software Installation

Even though you've downloaded the full software package, please double-check that the HP Full Feature Software and Drivers for your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw are installed correctly for Windows 11.

Step 2: Use HP Scan from the Full Software Suite

Once installed, the HP Scan utility should be available in your Start Menu. This version offers:

  • Auto-detect scan size
  • File type options (PDF, JPEG, etc.)
  • Multi-page scanning

If it’s not launching or detecting the printer, proceed to the next steps.

Step 3: Confirm Network Connection

  • Make sure your printer and PC are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Settings and confirm the IP address.
  • Enter this IP in a browser to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) and confirm connectivity.

Step 4: Try HP Scan via Windows Fax and Scan

If HP Scan still doesn’t work, you can temporarily use Windows Fax and Scan:

  • Search for it in the Start Menu.
  • Choose “New Scan” and select your printer.

Step 5: Troubleshooting Guide

HP has a dedicated guide for scanning issues with LaserJet printers on Windows: 🔗 HP LaserJet Pro MFP - Scan by using the HP Scan software (Windows) | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thank you for your email but I am afraid it does not help.  As I said in my original email, HP Scan will not connect or find my printer even if I enter the IP address.  They are on the same network and standard print is fine.  However, the HP Scan software just says it cannot find any imaging device

On top of the scan issues, I now notice the printer is only giving me the option to manually print both sides when it is a full duplex printer and prints both sides automatically in Windows 10

HP Recommended

For anyone else trying to get this printer to work on Win 11, the duplex printing can be enabled by. Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw > Printer properties > Device Settings tab > Duplex Unit - set drop-down to "Installed".  Automatic duplexing is now available.

Unfortunately, the suggestion below about taking this to private messaging is no use as the printer is no longer in warranty so it appears phone support, which is what the private email suggests, is not an option.

Has anyone else managed to get HP Scan to connect via wifi to this particular printer?

Thanks
