Microsoft Windows 11

Windows 11 laptop connected via usb to laser jet 1536 dnf mfp printer.  The HP sacn program worked fine with the setup until I installed the new HP software for the laser jet.  The printer works but when I click on the HP Scan program I get a message that the HP scan can not detect the device.  I have tried all the recommendations on the HP website with no luck.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @Scanner991,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue with HP Scan not detecting your HP LaserJet 1536 DNF MFP after the software update.

Check USB Connection

  • Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the laptop. If possible, try using a different USB port on your laptop.

Restart Devices

  • Power off your printer and laptop, then turn them back on. This can refresh the connection.

Update or Roll Back Drivers

Update Drivers:

  • Go to the Device Manager on Windows 11 (right-click the Start button and select "Device Manager").
  • Expand the "Printers" section, right-click on your HP LaserJet 1536 DNF MFP, and select "Update driver."
  • Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."

Roll Back Drivers:

  • If the issue started after a driver update, you may want to roll back to a previous version:
  • Right-click on your printer in Device Manager, select "Properties," then go to the "Driver" tab and click on "Roll Back Driver" if the option is available.

Reinstall HP Software

  • Uninstall the current HP software:
    • Go to "Apps & features" in Windows Settings, find your HP software, and uninstall it.
  • Download the latest software from the HP Support website.
  • Follow the installation instructions, ensuring to select USB as the connection type during setup.

Check Windows Permissions

  • Ensure that the HP Scan program has permission to access devices:
    • Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Device access.
    • Make sure HP Scan is allowed to access the printer.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP website.
  • This tool can diagnose and fix many common printing and scanning issues automatically.

Firewall and Antivirus

  • Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software that might be blocking the connection and check if HP Scan can detect the printer.

Use Windows Fax and Scan

  • As a workaround, you can use the built-in Windows Fax and Scan utility:
    • Search for "Windows Fax and Scan" in the Start menu.
    • Click "New Scan" and see if it detects the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
