HP Smart Scan Change Preset Default Setting

Every time I use Smart Scan to Scan Documents, I have to setup the defaults.

I would like to use document and A4 every time.

It is very frustrating as I often scan in a document using the wrong settings and have to do it again.

Can the Pre-set Defaults be changed?

The answer is "sort of" and "not in the way you expect".

HP Smart and its replacement the HP App, both serve multiple types of printers -- In other words, the application is built to support the many and not the single or the few.  Presets are generally generic.

HP Smart and HP App support their own version of "Shortcuts".  Shortcuts can be made for various job types, including Save (to a supported Cloud account and location), Print, and Share (to email).  Depending on the settings, more than one action (save, print, share) can be added to a single Shortcut.

The Printer supports Tray and Paper settings for Paper Size and Type plus a setting for preferred Tray that is effective for those printers that support more than one tray.

 Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE:  Find printer IP address

If asked enter the printer’s PIN number –

The default PIN might be located on the back or inside the printer (ink access area).

EWS – Tray and Paper Management / Paper > Trays

Notes

Depending on the printer model, the Printer Control Panel touchscreen might provide access to Paper Size / Type settings immediately after the paper is (re)loaded into the appropriate printer intake tray or when the tray is opened and then closed.

Reminders

EWS (Embedded Web Server) provides access and control for Settings, including Tray and Paper.

and

Paper Size, Type, and Weight loaded in the printer tray must be supported for use in that tray.

Classic EWS - InkJet Printers / Select other printers

Open your Browser

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

     Note → If your browser security will not let you open EWS, try a different browser.

Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper (Management)

Select / Adjust settings for Paper Size / Type

Model and EWS version Dependent:  Advanced section

Click Apply to save changes

Using USB?  Be sure to unplug the USB cable between the printer and the computer before loading the software.  Re-connect the USB cable when instructed to do so, generally near the end of the successful installation of the printer software. 

Restart the computer after the software is installed.
