HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

HP Smart Scan crashes when installed on Apple Monterey 12.2.1. I had the same issue with the previous release and deleted the software, then downloaded the update of around 10th Feb. This fixed the issue last time. With 12.2.1 however relating the process of deleting the software and then re-installing it did not work. It consistently crashes at the point it tries to send the file to the network computer. Changing resolution made no difference.

Thanks Betty, I already did that. It worked for the previous update to Monterey, but this one this last week did not work. Even the HP Scan (dumb) app will crash if there are too many pages. I think it is a cache/file size issue prior to transmitting over the network. 😞

Hi Betty,

I will try again following your precise guidances and let you know.

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Betty,

Sorry but "Application Support/HP Smart" does not exist on my Monterey 12.2.1 MACOS. I can find HP Smart application but I have already tried to delete that but the problem remains. Its definitely not on the path you suggested nor any other path I could find using SHOW HIDDED FOLDERS. 😞

Thanks for trying,

Paul

Thanks Betty, after some more googling, I found out how to find the folder (hidden - /Users/Username/Library/Application Support/HP Smart ), deleted the folder, then the app and it works on Monterey 12.2.1. Thank you.

I'm glad to hear that and you're most welcome. Do get back to us in the future for further assistance.

Have a nice day and stay safe!:)

On my mac, there is no HP Smart under:
/Users/Username/Library/Application Support/HP Smart

Only under /Applications

I think it varies according to the MacOS version you have. Try SHIFT, COMMAND and "." to show hidden folders. It is there somewhere. Once you delete it you can reinstall the HP Smart and it should not crash. Please go to the website to make sure you get the version of 2 weeks ago. 🙂

Thank you.  I do see the path /Users/Username/Library/Application Support/....

but there is no HP Smart file there.
