Hi,

 

I changed laptop, installed the HP Smart application from the Windows Store. The printer is printing and scanning just fine, but when saving files, I no longer have the option to save files as 'searchable PDF'. I used to have a lot more options, but now it only gives me two options: 'Basic PDF' or 'Image (*.jpg)'. 

 

Unfortunately, I am not able to reach HP support as it's too difficult to contact them and you need a whole spare day to get in touch with anyone at HP.

I tried searching online, found a few options (a few years old posts), and have tried them all, but no luck. 

 

Could anyone possibly help?

True - this printer model should support searchable PDF as an eligible non-HP+ printer.

Complete one or more of the following --

If you skip something (unwanted, disliked) and nothing works,

Consider starting again and adding in any skipped steps.

If the app is installed on another Windows device and that app is no longer working on that computer,

Try / Consider

Reset the HP Smart app on that device.

 

MacOS -- HP Smart Installed in MacOS?

IF there is an App reset option for HP Smart installed in MacOS, consider running the Reset app procedure on your installed HP Smart app.  ?

 

 

What else?

 

Much of what is internal to HP Smart is carried in your own user (Microsoft) account.

 

Try / Consider

Reset HP Smart app on your new computer.

 

Should the Reset HP Smart not be enough,

Add

Uninstall the app > Restart the computer and log in

 

 

Sign into your HP Smart / HP Connected account 

Check / Remove your printer from the account

The printer and device (computer, tablet, phone) where HP Smart is running should be on the same network.

No Joy?

 

Restart Everything, including the router that controls your network

 

That might be enough (at least short term) -- check...

 Check / Run Windows Updates > Install any pending updates

 

Next,

If not previously completed,

Restart everything, including the router that controls your network.

Can’t stand it?  Consider:  Restart computer(s) and printer.

 

Next,

Open and Check HP Smart

 

Stop if everything is now working.

 

If the HP Smart opens but does not work or hangs partly open: 

Close the HP Smart App

If you cannot close HP Smart: Restart the computer and log in

Do not start the HP Smart yet.

 

 

No Joy?

Windows - Reset HP Smart Application

 

Next,

Reset the HP Smart application - This action removes the app data.

 

How to Reset the App

 

Windows 10 -

Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

 

OR

 

Windows 11 - 

Settings > Apps > Installed Apps

 

Next,

Search / Find HP Smart in the apps list

Open Advanced options > Reset the app

 

Restart the computer and log in

Open HP Smart > Sign in > Add Printer(s)

 

What if?

If the app Reset does not work by itself,

Next,

Uninstall the HP Smart App from Settings > Apps > Installed Apps or Apps and Features

Restart the computer and log in

“Get” a new copy of the HP Smart application from the Microsoft Store

Open HP Smart > Sign in > Add Printer(s)

Hi, many thanks for a detailed response but unfortunately it didn't work. However, when i use my mobile app and scan the document, it gives me the option to save as searchable pdf so it looks as though the problem is with hp smart windows app

The app Reset would have helped were there some sort of app data corruption in your account.
