Hi @ColinLay,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering an issue with HP Smart on your laptop and receiving the message that it cannot be found or the storage device might be missing or disconnected, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

  1. Check Network Connection:

    • Ensure that your laptop is connected to the internet. Some apps may require an internet connection to function properly.
  2. Verify Storage Device:

    • Make sure that your laptop's storage device (hard drive or SSD) is functioning correctly and is not disconnected.
  3. Reinstall HP Smart:

    • Uninstall HP Smart from your laptop.
    • Restart your laptop.
    • Reinstall HP Smart from the Microsoft Store.
  4. Update Windows:

    • Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes, updating Windows can resolve compatibility issues with applications.
  5. Check for HP Smart Updates:

    • If HP Smart was previously installed, check for updates within the application or in the Microsoft Store to make sure you have the latest version.
  6. Run Windows Troubleshooter:

    • Use the built-in Windows troubleshooter to identify and fix problems with apps.
  7. Check Antivirus or Security Software:

    • Your antivirus or security software might be blocking HP Smart. Temporarily disable your antivirus or security software and check if the issue persists. If disabling it resolves the problem, you may need to add HP Smart to the list of allowed applications in your security software.
  8. Check for System Corruption:

    • Run the System File Checker (SFC) tool to scan and repair corrupted system files. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command: sfc /scannow.

Remember to back up any important data before making significant changes to your system, such as reinstalling applications or updating the operating system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
