Microsoft Windows 11

First - "Select from my products", on this message entry page, didn't show my printer, I tried "Add a product to my profile", 'saved' the entry.  "Refreshed the list" - still won't show my printer - an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw".

My problem/question:  I replaced my 8 yr old HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M/277 with this M283 because the doc feeder had trouble feeding docs - kept slipping.  Everything else worked fine.  But I do a lot of scanning.

Problem with the M283: I used the 'old' scanner app "HP Scan" with the new M283.  It worked fine - except it would only scan 8-1/2" by 11".  Selecting any other size or even a custom size resulted in an 8-1/2" by 11" scan.  After a 're-install' of the M283 software didn't fix the problem, I uninstalled every HP app in the list of installed apps.  Then downloaded a fresh version of HPEasyStart_16_3_6 and ran that.  The scan software it came up with is VERY limited in selections.  There is no custom size,  "Output" is only 'Color' or 'Gray', no B&W (which is VERY helpful when scanning docs with a color background & I don't want a color background in the scan).   There is no brightness or contrast adjustment (in Gray scans).  There is no double-sided scan (which was VERY, VERY helpful when scanning multiple page double-sided docs.  Wow, what a letdown!  Is there any way to get the features back from the old version?  The only saving grace to this version is that it allowed scanning 14" long docs.

Hi @KingGN,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you are experiencing issues with the scanning capabilities of your new HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw, particularly with the limitations of the new software compared to the old "HP Scan" application. Here are a few suggestions to address your concerns.

  • Check for Firmware/Driver Updates: Ensure that your printer's firmware and drivers are up to date. Visit the official HP website, enter your printer model, and download the latest firmware and drivers for your operating system.
  • Install Full Feature Software: Instead of using the basic software provided by HPEasyStart, try downloading and installing the full feature software package for your printer model. This package usually includes all the functionalities of the printer, including scanning options.
  • Use HP Smart App: HP Smart is another app provided by HP that consolidates various printer functionalities, including scanning. Install the HP Smart app from the official app store for your operating system and check if it provides more scanning options.
  • Check for Third-Party Software: If the official HP software does not meet your requirements, consider using third-party scanning software that supports your HP printer model. Applications like VueScan or NAPS2 are popular alternatives that offer advanced scanning options.
  • Explore Advanced Settings: Within the HP software or the HP Smart app, look for any advanced settings or options related to scanning. Sometimes, these settings are not immediately visible, and you may need to navigate through different tabs or menus to find them.

Remember to check the user manual or documentation for your printer model, as it may contain specific information on scanning options and settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
