I have spent a lot of time trying to establish why HP Smart is unable to save a scanned file (pdf or jpg) to my virtual drive with my new HP 6300e printer!
A couple of years ago I had the same issue with my HP4500, lots of suggestions - and no solution found!
I have been online for the past couple of hours with an HP Tech and managed to achieve success by using my HP Envy 6000 Series icon on my desktop, however when I try to use HP Smart no success.
If I try to save my scanned file (using HP Smart) to my virtual folder I see the saved file name but file size is zero, so not readable! If I save to my local C drive or desktop all works well. I am then able to copy that file to my virtual drive successfully.
Saving scans to my virtual drive in Dropbox works OK.
However, saving to Box virtual folders does NOT work! (Box.com)
When I check the IP Addresses on the two apps I get two different IP Addresses!
Using HP Envy 6000 Series App - Network Address (IP): 192.168.1.254 (that is correct)
Using HP Smart App - Network Address (IP): fe80::5e60:baff:8511:%4
Therein lies the problem, how do I get HP Smart to use the correct IP Address (192.168.1.254) ?
Needs some brains working on this, please!
UPDATE: one hour later!! I scanned the same document using my iPhone HP Smart app.......and it worked OK! Was able to save the scanned document into my virtual Box Folder - go figure!!!

UPDDATE 2! Three hours later!
It seems the title is wrong! I am now able to save HP Smart scanned documents to my virtual drive!
How did I do that? Well, it seems that HP Smart was not configured correctly! I decided to add a new printer (despite my existing printer showing being listed.) HP Smart found a new printer - Scan Only (HP Envy 6000 Series) - DO NOT DELETE. This had the correct IP Address (192.168.1.254) so all I did was add this and reboot the PC.
All is now well! Problem solved!

Hi @Freda_Checks,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
HP Smart is a printing and scanning application developed by HP (Hewlett-Packard) for managing and printing documents. It's primarily designed for handling physical documents and printing tasks rather than file storage or virtual drives. If you're trying to save a scanned document or a file to a virtual drive hosted on a service like Box.com, you would typically do that through the standard file-saving options in your operating system or through the Box.com web interface or desktop application.
Here are the general steps to save a file to a virtual drive like Box.com.
- Scan or create the document you want to save using HP Smart.
- After scanning or creating the document, save it to your computer's local storage first. Use the "Save As" or "Save" option in HP Smart to save the file to your computer.
- Once the file is saved on your computer, open a web browser and go to Box.com.
- Log in to your Box.com account.
- Navigate to the folder where you want to save the file.
- Use the "Upload" or "Add" button on the Box.com website to upload the file from your computer to your Box.com virtual drive.
- Follow any on-screen prompts to complete the upload process.
HP Smart does not have direct integration with Box.com or similar cloud storage services for saving files. Therefore, you will need to save the scanned document to your local storage first and then manually upload it to your Box.com account through the web interface.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden, thanks for that!
If you look at my last post you will see that I have indeed managed to save my scanned documents directly to my virtual drive by installing the "other" HP Printer!
Thanks for your observations.
