Hi, as others have posted here, it is incredibly frustrating and a time waster to always have to sign in to use the HP Smart app after checking the box that says "REMEMBER ME" every time!

Even more frustrating were the customer support responses that didn't even bother to read and understand the concern and just posted inane responses with links to HP printer setup pages (like this https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1716406-1413451-16) that had not answers to fix this issue.  In that article is a FAQ that states you have to sign in to use the app.  Duh!  We know that.  That's not the problem.  The problem is that it requires you to sign in again and again (every time) after clicking "Remember Me".  Then even more annoying were the subsequent HP customer support responses that just restated the same useless responses without bothering to even read the comments.

We used to be able to install and use the full software suite using HPEasyStart or Full_Webpack (which you can still download) until some genious HP coders made them fail to install when they fail to open account authentication pages with a blank page, fail to find the printer on the network and/or fail to open a webpage to install HP Smart that says"We're sorry, we don't support this device or operating system  Currently, we don't suport mobile setup from this device or operation system (Tap here for more options)."  You idiots!!  I'm on a Windows 11 PC, not a mobile device!!!   Then when I click to close that useless window prompting me to install HP Smart (WHICH I DON"T WANT!  I WANT THE OLD SCHOOL SOFTWARE SUITE THAT WORKS FINE BUT CAN NO LONGER BE INSTALLED with it's own installation software!!!) the install of the software fails to complete with nothing installed. Thanks HP!

My next printer will be a Brother...

Thanks HP!

When I click to close the useless window that says ""We're sorry, we don't support this device or operating system..." I get a prompt with the option to continue (which results in an endless loop) or close (which ends the software installation with a fail) but there is a link to copy the link to continue installation later.  When I copy and paste that link into a browser, guess what I get??  404: Not Found.

HP, if you're listening, PLEASE PLEASE update and fix your software.  Fix HP Smart which doesn't remember your sign in credentials and sign you in automatically after checking "Remember Me".  Fix your HPEasyStart and Full_Webpack suite installation software which force you to install HP Smart (opening windows that fail to authenticate or recognize a supported device and OS) and ultimately fail to install the original software suites they were intended to install.  Please, it's painful.  Every time I have to reinstall the HP printer software I run into this and it is an AWFUL user experience.  I have a pristine, gorgeous, like new with warranty expired HP printer that I want to continue to use.  Don't make me junk it for another brand of printer just because you guys refuse to update and fix your software!

HP Smart might require the sign-in "every time" if / when it cannot keep track of your HP Account or the application cannot keep track of the printer.

All of the following is offered FYI --

Ignore anything you do not like or do not need.

================================================

Wireless Connection

Restart Everything, including the router that controls your network.

This might be enough to fix whatever is causing the problem.

================================================

HP Smart Application

Reminder:  Use of the HP Smart application is Optional.

The HP Smart application is perhaps corrupted -- unlikely, certainly possible.

Two ways to deal with that:

Reset the HP Smart Application

If the Reset does not work, Uninstall the HP Smart application > Restart the computer > Install the app

Example provided later in this message...

================================================

Network

The connection is perhaps breaking between the printer added in HP Smart from use to the next.

This might happen if the connection between the printer and the network is not stable.

The network connection might be unstable.

Less likely - worth a minute to check

Network - Continued - TCP/IP

  • The connection type is not TCP/IP --
  • Change the connection type to TCP/IP,
  • Consider assigning a Static / Manual IP address

Method - Create TCP IP port

TCP/IP can resolve odd connection, scanning, and installation problems.

Create / Switch to a TCP/IP Port to facilitate communication and prevent ‘offline’ issues

Find the printer's IPv4 address

Print a Configuration Page

OR

Tap on the wireless icon on the Front panel of your Printer to get the IP address

Control Panel, from Devices and Printers

Right-Click the printer and Left-Click Printer Properties

Tab Ports

Click Add Port

Select Standard TCP/IP Port

Select New Port and follow the instructions

Type in the correct IP address for the printer

Network - Continued - Router

  • The connection to a dual band router is perhaps not configured correctly
  • The router is perhaps old, outdated, too far away, or the settings on the router are not fully or correctly configured
  • Isolation is set in the router

Printer Software

Easy Start can install the HP Smart application or the full driver software.

Reminder:  Use of Easy Start (at this writing) is optional for your printer.

Ask if you want additional information on using the Easy Start Software wrapper.

Install the Full Feature Software using the Web Pack Installation package.

If the Full Feature software is installed,

Uninstall the printer software from Programs and Features

Restart the computer and log in

Check for lurking bits of printer / printer software in Devices and Printers - Remove if found and Restart the computer

Next,

Download and Save the Installation package

Install a fresh copy of the printer software

Restart the computer and log in
