Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).
Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP OfficeJet 5232
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello

My HP Smart software won't accept scans from my printer any more. This happened pretty spontaneously, and I don't know what caused it. One possibility is an automated update that I didn't notice. My rig often runs overnight.

I press "Scan". It starts working, the printer starts its scanning program, and HP Smart delivers the error: "There was a problem communicating with the scanner, etc.". The printer does not abort the scanning job, rather it seems to run through it. If I later retry the scanning, HP Smart reports the scanner as "busy", even though it's not. I can restart HP Smart and the first error will pop again.

My current workaround is scanning to HP Smart on my iPad, which works perfectly, saving it to OneDrive and accessing it on my computer. It's not a huge hassle but I'd rather sort this out.

I've tried:
- Printer reset

- Signing out and in of HP Smart

- Reinstalling HP Smart

- HP Smart printer troubleshoot (reported "everything is in order")

- HP Print And Scan fix program (this was loaded with additional software which I didn't appreciate, everything worked fine)

- Reinstalling the printer in the system and connecting through that configuration

- Getting every last Windows update

- Turning off firewall

Same problem if I try scanning through the document feeder. The OfficeJet runs the document through like normal, but HP Smart immediately delivers the error message.

Printing documents works fine. Copying works fine. I'm using genuine HP ink and I'm an HP-ink subscriber. I connect over network, printer is connected through wifi with good signal.

Any assistance is appreciated

 Hi @JoeyMcFlow,

I'd like to help!

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity

Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor specifically created to help with printer offline conditions.

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.
    • If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.
    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  4. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.
  5. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Uninstall the app and reinstall it from here

If the issue persists, Try installing HP Easy Start ( it is under software utility) and then try printing or scanning

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
