Welcome to the HP English Community --
Perhaps the job contained just too much data and the scan collapsed.
The printer's processor is fast enough -- the memory is limited
Perhaps the connection faltered - it only takes a tiny interruption and the job falls apart.
Yes, when that happens, all the job data is lost.
Perhaps try breaking the job into fewer pages.
Afterwards, purchase / obtain an app / software to combine the PDF files into one file.
Open your browser and search for "combine PDF files"
You could try using a different scan application / software -- none of these of which I am aware scan and save pages during the job -- you still risk getting almost done and Poof! Gone.
