Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

After updating windows the other day, HP Smart does not recognize the scanner part of my printer. I can scan from this printer to this computer using other apps on this computer, so the scanner does in fact work, but something is not working with HP Smart. The message I get says "Couldn't connect to scanner. HP Smart cannot scan from this printer. Either no scanner was detected of HP Smart is not compatible with the scanner in this printer."

I recently ran into this issue on my workhorse laptop for scanning where I have an HP 4155 connected via USB.  It could not find the scanner on the USB but did allow scanning using the network interface.

I also have an HP 6055 that I use via network only; connecting via USB resulted in the same issue so it's not the printer.

The version of HP Smart was 154.1.1072.0 so I was able to roll back one version to 153.1.1137.0; after adding the USB printer in HP Smart, I was able to scan.

The issue now becomes recognizing when the app automatically updates itself.

Hope this helps ...

I ran into this same scenario and had the 154.1.1072.0 version of HP Smart software. How do you roll back the level of the HP smart software? I'm running on Windows 10 and just did a blasted update.
