We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP envy 7640
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I can fax physical documents directly from my HP envy 7640 device but cannot fax a pdf file on my laptop or launch a fax using the Hp 7640 software. The HP 7640 fax icon is missing from the "printers and scanners" list of devices. Probably during a windows update or something, the fax icon got deleted. Called HP tech support and they tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software/drivers, but no change. Tech support gave up on me and tried to sell me a new printer. Also, when I launch the usual software to print/scan/fax, the fax selection does not allow me to initiate a fax - the button is essentially disabled. Help!

Thanks.

Hi,

From the Control Panel select Uninstall a Program.

Select the HP Envy 7640 Basic Device Software and press the Repair button in the top.

Note: if the install window prompt to Browse for an installation file, click the Start button and type %temp% into the search bar, then open the shown Temp folder.

Open the latest HP installation folder which begins with 7z (e.g. 7zs1234) if there are several such folders, locate the latest one which includes drivers, Fonts, and utils as part of its sub-folders.

Copy that folder's path from the top address bar and paste it into the installation dialog, confirm any prompt and check for any change once the installation completes.

Please let me know if that makes any difference and adds the Fax printer or not,

Shlomi

ShlomiL, you are the Man/Woman(pick one)! I can't believe the simple act of repairing the program restored everything back to working order so easily after uninstalling an re-installing failed before. The HP printer help dude I spoke with was clearly unqualified to help me and was more interested in selling me a new printer than troubleshooting the issue. Thanks for giving my HP printer/fax a new lease on life!
