I am trying to scan.  Everything was working fine from the document feeder and now all of a sudden it says that the document feeder is empty when it isn't.  I have tried to unplug it and plug it back in and it still isn't reading the documents.  How do I fix that?

Hi @Kristysbaer,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 4155 is showing a "Document Feeder Empty" error when it isn't, it might be due to several reasons including sensor issues, document misalignment, or software glitches. Here’s a detailed guide to troubleshoot and fix the issue:

1. Check for Paper Jams

  • Inspect the Document Feeder: Open the document feeder and check for any paper jams or obstructions that might be blocking the sensor.
  • Remove Any Obstructions: Carefully remove any stuck paper or debris from the feeder.

2. Clean the Document Feeder

  • Clean the Roller and Sensors:
    1. Turn off the Printer: Ensure the printer is turned off and unplugged.
    2. Clean the Rollers: Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water to clean the rollers in the document feeder.
    3. Clean the Sensors: Gently clean the sensors using a dry, lint-free cloth. The sensors are usually small glass or plastic parts located near the rollers.

3. Check Document Alignment

  • Properly Align Documents: Ensure that the documents are properly aligned and inserted into the document feeder. They should be placed neatly and should not exceed the maximum capacity of the feeder.

4. Check Document Feeder Settings

  • Adjust Settings: Make sure the document feeder settings on your printer’s control panel or software are configured correctly for the type of document you are trying to scan.

5. Update Printer Firmware and Drivers

Update Firmware:

  1. Via Printer: Check if there’s an option to update the firmware directly from the printer’s control panel.
  2. Via HP Support: Visit the HP Support website, search for your model, and download the latest firmware if available.

Update Drivers:

  1. Go to HP Support: Download and install the latest drivers and software for your HP OfficeJet Pro 4155.

6. Restart the Printer

  • Restart: Power off the printer, unplug it, wait for about 60 seconds, plug it back in, and turn it on. This can sometimes reset any temporary issues with the hardware.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
