When I ping this printer it is showing a 10% packet loss. When this happens printing and scan to email features fail to function. The printer has an ethernet wired connection going directly from the printer to a ethernet wall jack. No other devices are attached and it is using our work LAN with multiple iMacs and laptops using it. I changed the ethernet cable with a new one. I reset the printer. When the ethernet cable is connected in back I see a green link light indicating a printer connection and a blinking orange light. I printed out a Network Summary and the Status (Wired) says Ready.

Still when I ping this printer I am still getting 10% packet loss and loss of printer funtionalilty. This product is still under warranty until July 2017. I opened a case online with HP (Case No: 5000135141 Has Been Created CRM: 0043244) within 34 minutes of acknowledging my help ticket the case was closed even though unresolved and no reason given.

I am going to try and set up wireless to see if that works better but I'd like to know why the wired network connection keeps timing out.

@Xerrol,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are unable to print from your HP LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276 as the connection to the network keeps dropping.

This issue could occur if the cable is faulty or the network is not stable.

Let's go through a few steps to troubleshoot this issue.

And here's the step by step guide for you to assign a static IP address:

1. Select the "Apple" menu and select "System Preferences."

2. Click "Network."

3. Click the lock to authenticate and make changes.

4. Select the network element on the left to which you are assigning an address. Select "Wi-Fi" for wireless networks and "Ethernet" for wired networks.

5. Click the "Advanced..." button and select the "TCP/IP" tab.

6. Change "Configure IPv4:" to "Using DHCP with manual address."

7. Type your static address in the IPv4 Address: field

8. Click "OK" to return to the networking pane.

Let me know how this works.

You have a good day ahead.

Thanks for the reply Rainbow23. The printer already has a static IP address and one of the first things I did was to switch out the old ethernet cable for a new one.  I switched it over to wireless since the wired network keeps bouncing it's connection. Still do not have the Scan to Email function but at least for now people can print.

Hi there.  I know this is a year old thread, but I found it while Googling this problem and thought I would bump it for the benefit of others.  I also was using a wired connection with a static IP, and a continuous ping would drop about every 15 to 20th packet.  Printing was iffy, scanning never worked.

My printer (a M130nw) was connected to a gigabit port on a Cisco switch with both the switch and the printer set to autonegotiate.  The switch and the printer web inteface both said it negotiated 100/full, which should be fine as the printer only does 100Mb.

While troubleshooting what was a really annoying problem, I tried hardcoding the switch to speed 100/duplex full and the printer to 100Tx Full.  Bingo!  Network is totally stable now, no dropped pings after 1000s of packets.  Scanning works fine.

I assume there is some issue with the firmware (20170710, which seems to be the latest) that the NIC on the printer does not negotiate properly.  Anyway, this worked for me.  If anyone else runs across this I suggest giving it a try.

Disregard.  It's better, but still dropping packets.  I think this thing just has a flaky NIC.

Will try opening a support case.

Update.  Tried switching to wireless, but it had the same intermittent packet loss, and I'm certain it was not an RF issue so that ruled out the ethernet NIC.  The problem has to be at a higher layer.  Searched through the forums here and another suggestion I saw was to turn off IPv6.  That seems to have worked permanently.  Went back to wired and I left an extended ping running overnight with no packet drops at all.

With IPv6 being default enabled, I'm surprised this is not a problem for everyone, but my problem is fixed, so it is all good here.

Cheers.

Can confirm. I set speed to 1000 and duplex to full on the switchport(cisco switch) which matched what the printer(LaserJet M401dne) was "auto negotiating" with the switch at. After I hard coded that onto the switchport, no more dropped pings. I already have IPv6 turned off before this. My issue was that users were complaining of 5-10 minute wait times for jobs to print. Pinged it and it was dropping packets. Seems there is an issue with the auto negotiation of the printer. The printer itself showed it was operating at 1000 Mbps but did not indicate whether it was full or half duplex. Hope this helps someone else!
