Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdw Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

With support for HP Scan & Capture being dropped, HPSmart is being recommended. It works fine with my M1217NFW B&W LaserJet on both Windows 11 & MacOS, but my new, fancy MFP4301 doesn't work at all with it on Windows 11. Any chance of it being fixed in my lifetime? BTRW, it seems to work OK on the MacOS side of things.

It is possible that HP Smart is not compatible with the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301-4303dw/fdn/fdw Printer series  and Windows 11.  ?

 

One of the vagaries of the HP Smart App --

Check / Update  >> Every device (computer(s) and / or mobile) where HP Smart is installed should be running the latest version of the HP Smart application available for that device platform (Operating System / Version).

 

Other checks for HP Smart installation are listed below in section "Message Content References"

 

What if?

 

If you have not done so, you can try resetting the HP Smart app -- this does remove the apps data (for all printers).

 

There is no guarantee that Resetting the App will work but it can do so -- worth a look at least.  Optional, of course.

Finally,

If HP Smart is not supported in Windows 11 and this printer -- and / or the app simply won't work -- there are other applications and software that you can use for Printing and Scanning Photos / Images and documents.

NOTES: 

  • Read the Terms of Use document to understand the conditions of using HP Smart products.  For example, in the HP Smart application, find the link in HP Smart > Settings (gear) > About > Click on the link for Terms of Use
  • Read FAQ - including - What are the requirements to set up a printer using the HP Smart app?
  • If using VPN >>Disconnect from Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection before downloading.
  • Turn on Wi-Fi on your computer or mobile device and connect to your network. If the computer is connected to the network with an Ethernet cable, temporarily disconnect the cable and use the Wi-Fi connection during the setup.

  • HP Smart requires that you sign into the application using your HP Account credentials.
  • When working through a Browser to access HP Smart, be sure you have Cookies enabled.  If cookies are enabled and you are having trouble, clear Cache and Cookies.   And / Or … Try a different Browser – assign that Browser as the Default. (Note:  Chrome not working?  Use / Assign a different default Browser.)
  • Where possible, HP Smart benefits (likes) having the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software installed.  For example, full driver provides access to Shortcuts and Printing Preferences.
  • “Share” to email – Before using Share, add your sender email address to the standard Windows Mail application (not New Outlook).

 

  • Document includes the HP Smart application download links for Windows and Mobile devices, plus an FAQ section to assist with questions / issues.

If not previously completed,

Can’t stand it?  Consider:  Restart computer(s) and printer.

Open and Check HP Smart

 

Stop if everything is now working.

 

If the HP Smart opens but does not work or hangs partly open: 

Close the HP Smart App

If you cannot close HP Smart: Restart the computer and log in

Do not start the HP Smart yet.

 

 

No Joy?

Windows - Reset HP Smart Application

 

Next,

Reset the HP Smart application - This action removes the app data.

 

How to Reset the App

 

Windows 10 -

Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

 

OR

 

Windows 11 - 

Settings > Apps > Installed Apps

 

Next,

Search / Find HP Smart in the apps list

Open Advanced options > Reset the app

 

Restart the computer and log in

Open HP Smart > Sign in > Add Printer(s)

 

What if?

If the app Reset does not work by itself,

Next,

Uninstall the HP Smart App from Settings > Apps > Installed Apps or Apps and Features

Restart the computer and log in

“Get” a new copy of the HP Smart application from the Microsoft Store

Open HP Smart > Sign in > Add Printer(s)

 

Still Rubbish

Provided FYI

 

If nothing else works – Consider --

Uninstall the HP Smart app from Windows > Restart the computer and log in

 

AND

 

While connected to the same (home / office) network as your computer,

Uninstall the HP Smart app from other device(s) on your network (computers, tablets, phones)

After the app is removed from its device > Restart the device (for example, iPad, iPhone)

 

Next,

Repeat for each mobile device where you want to install the HP Smart application:

Install the HP Smart app on the mobile device

Start HP Smart app > Sign into the app > Add printer(s)

Next,

Restart the computer and log in

Install a fresh copy of the HP Smart application for Windows
