Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

MFP426FDW & M478F-9F
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Have MFP426FDW & Color M478F-9F that won't scan from feeder at front panel.

Using HP-Smart app, scanning works as expected.

Using the 3" front glass panel, insert paper in the feeder, and the Printer indicates "document loaded", now touch the scan icon, select scan to computer, select my PC in list, touch confirm and scanned does not use the paper in the doc feeder, rather scans the glass bed.

Have searched a method to modify the setup on the 2 printers to allow it to scan from the feeder when it detects the paper w/o success.

Note: The MFP426FDW is a 1 year old B&W with updated firmware and the M478F-9F is 1 Month old color, both with same behavior.

Please advise

Regards

Hi,

It might seems similar, but I doubt you experience the exact same issue, as both printers are provided with different scanning options.

For the M426 printer, Scan to Computer only supports WSD Scanning which is done by the operating system, not by the HP Software.

Please open the control Panel and select Devices and Printers.

Right-click the M426 print queue and select Scan Profiles.

Select any of the profiles and click on Edit, then make sure the Source is set to Feeder and not to Flatbed.

For the M479 printer, did you enable Scan to Computer from the HP Software?

If you only have the HP Smart option, install the HP Full Feature Software option and then enable Scan to Computer as listed on Page 84 of its manual:

If you don't have the HP Software installed, follow HP Easy Start by selecting the HP Basic or Full Feature Software option and complete the installation:
