HP OfficeJet Pro 8725
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am having issues when scanning multiple pages through the document feeder. The first page scans fine but the second and subsequent pages have a horiztonal black line approx 2/3rds of the way down the scanned page. I have tried scanning plain paper and the same thing happens. First page come out totally white but second, third, fourth and fifth pages come out with this horiztonal black line 2/3rds of the way down the page. I have cleaned the scanner window. (It doesn't happen when you scan multiple pages on the glass flatbed - only through the document feeder). Also, it doesn't happen if you copy multiple pages through the document feeder. It only happens on scans.

I would like to help

Please update the Firmware from this Link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-OfficeJet-Pro-8710/8720/8730/8740-All-in-One-Pri...

Next clean the ADF Rollers

  1. Lift the cover of the ADF.

    Image: Lifting the ADF cover

  2. Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with bottled or distilled water, and then squeeze any excess liquid from the cloth.

  3. Press the cloth against the rollers, and then rotate them upward with your fingers. Apply a moderate amount of pressure to remove any dust or dirt buildup.

    1. Rollers

    2. Separator pad

  4. Allow the rollers to dry completely (approximately 10 minutes).

  5. Close the ADF cover tightly at both ends.

Try printing and let me know how it goes

Thank you and have a lovely day 😊

I had the same issue with a different model but the solution offered didn't work:

For me it also happened when you scan multiple pages from the flatbed. It did not happen with copies, which suggests rollers and scanner are OK. I ran the Doctor app; it couldn't find the driver and I followed the instructions to resolve that. I have checked firmware - reports all up to date. I tried reinstalling from scratch with the latest drivers. I cleaned the rollers but the fact that the first page scanned is always fine and all pages of copies are fine points away from rollers or a cleaning issue in any case. Nothing worked. Scans taken on 30 January 2019 were fine. Scans on and since 6 February 2019 have the line. A check on release dates for HP software didn't indicate any apparent changes. Really annoying.

However, when I tried to print the page with the line, so I could scan back to JPG and post here, the print out had no line. Viewing the scans in Word and in Foxit Reader also showed no line. Conclusion, not an HP issue but something gone wrong with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. My current version is 2019.010.20098. Hopefully they will fix it. Anyway, lots of time wasted trying to solve a problem with the scanner that doesn't exist. Hope this helps someone else.
