Hi @TP103,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

To activate the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) on your HP OfficeJet 8028e when scanning, follow these steps:

1. Check Document Placement:

  • Make sure the documents are correctly placed into the ADF tray. Align the stack properly with the paper guides.
  • Ensure the ADF recognizes the documents by listening for the chime, which you've mentioned is already happening.

2. Choose ADF in Scan Settings:

  • When scanning from your computer, open the HP Smart App or any scanning software you're using.
  • In the scan settings or the scan dialog, look for an option to select the source.
    • Choose Document Feeder (or ADF) as the scan source instead of Flatbed.

This option is usually under the "Source" or "Input" section of the scan settings.

3. Disable Flatbed Default:

  • If the software defaults to the flatbed scanner, you can try to disable or manually switch it to the ADF.
  • In the scan dialog or HP Smart App:
    • Go to Advanced Settings (or More Settings).
    • Choose ADF as the default scan input source for multi-page documents.

4. Scan from Printer Panel:

  • You can also initiate the scan directly from the printer control panel:
    • Load your documents in the ADF.
    • Select Scan > Computer from the printer's menu.
    • The printer should automatically prioritize the ADF since documents are loaded there.

5. Ensure ADF is Working:

  • Run an ADF test by copying multiple pages:
    • Load a few pages into the ADF and press Copy on the printer. This can help verify if the ADF is functioning correctly.

By adjusting the settings to use the ADF instead of the flatbed, your multi-page documents should scan through the feeder instead of the glass.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
