This printer is under a year old. My scanner is working, but the quality of the copies it makes is horrible. The copies are very dark with thick lines and a distorted image. I have tried restarting the printer. That does not seem to do anything. I am using a wireless connection to a MacBook Pro 2011 running El Capitan 10.11
I have tried to calibrate it and I get an error message every time the scanner pulls the plain white paper through. Error message reads that it was unable to calibrate scanner please check paper quality. I'm using normal 8 x 11 white computer paper.
I figured it was probably just dirty so there has to be a way to clean the scanner. I tried to troubleshoot via hp support, but the directions for cleaning don't include how to open up the scanner on this particular printer.
Is there a way to clean the scanner? Is there a way fix the error message on my calibration so I can get it to work?

Hi,
The scanner cannot be cleaned manually, a scan calibration should resolve a such.
If it is wirelessly connection I suggest plugging a USB and calibrating the scanner, then check if you may see any difference:
If it is connected with a USB, ensure the cable is not longer than 2 meters song and directly conencted to your Mac, not through any USB hub or extention.
If the same persists it will likely require servicing the device, I suggest contacting HP by filling the form below:

Hi,
Thank you for the quick reply! It is much appreciated. Is there an easy way to disconnect the wireless connection and switch the connection back to USB? I have my usb plugged in, but the printer is still connecting to my computer through wireless. I'm guessing that was becuase the wireless connection was still enabled, so I disconnected the wireless connection to the printer by using the blue wireless icon button on the printer. I reconnected the USB cable to my computer, but the printer will not recognize the connection and connect this way. Is there a quick way to change the connection setting that enables me to toggle back and forth easily without deleting the wireless connection and reloading everything?
Thanks,
Vanessa
