Hi @GregBolts,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To scan documents using your HP printer and create a digital file copy, you can follow these general steps. Please note that the specific steps might vary slightly depending on the model of your HP printer. Always refer to your printer's user manual for detailed instructions.

  1. Place Your Document:

    • Lift the scanner lid of your HP printer.
    • Place the document face-down on the glass or face-up in the document feeder, depending on your printer model.
  2. Access the Printer Control Panel:

    • On your printer's control panel, locate the "Scan" or "Scan To" button. Press this button to start the scanning process.
  3. Choose Scan Settings:

    • Use the arrow keys on the printer control panel to navigate through the options.
    • Select the desired scan settings such as color mode, resolution, and file format. Choose a suitable format such as PDF for documents.
  4. Select Destination:

    • Choose where you want to save the scanned file. You may be prompted to select a computer, USB drive, or other destinations.
  5. Start Scanning:

    • Once you've configured the settings, press the "Start" or "Scan" button to initiate the scanning process.
  6. Preview (if available):

    • Some printers offer a preview option that allows you to see the scanned image before saving. If available, use this feature to make adjustments if needed.
  7. Save the Scan:

    • After the scanning is complete, you may be prompted to save the scanned document. Follow the on-screen instructions to name the file and choose the location where you want to save it.
  8. Verify the Scan:

    • Open the saved file on your computer to ensure that the scan is accurate and meets your requirements.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
