HP Scan on the Taskbar

If the Full Feature Software is installed for your printer,

Open File Explorer (formally Windows Explorer)

Navigate to the "bin" folder for your software

For example, open path to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8740 series\bin

NOTE:  Replace the name of the printer in the example to your printer

Scroll down, find HP Scan.exe

Right-Click on the File > Select Pin to Taskbar

The method is similar to pin a Shortcut (already) on your Desktop to the Taskbar

Find the shortcut on your Desktop > Right-Click on the shortcut icon

Select "Pin to Taskbar"

Example - Pin Shortcut on Desktop to Taskbar

Send_to_Taskbar_1Send_to_Taskbar_1

Pin to Taskbar > Printer Assistant Executable (Installed Full Feature Software)

Right-Click on a clear area on your Desktop > New > Shortcut

• Select (type) the target path (that is, the command) for your new shortcut

Example

Enter all on one line, including the quotes as shown, replacing the example printer model with your printer

Target Line

"C:\Program Files\HP\HP OfficeJet Pro 8740\Bin\HP OfficeJet Pro 8740.exe" -Start UDCDevicePage

OR

Depending on whether the Operating System is "32 bit" only:

Printer Software might instead be located in C:\Program Files (x86)\HP

Target line if your software is located in "C:\Program Files (x86)\"

" C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP OfficeJet Pro 8740\Bin\HP OfficeJet Pro 8740.exe" -Start UDCDevicePage

• Type a name for your shortcut, for example: Assistant Monet or Assistant 5460

NOTES:

  • The -Start UDCDevicePage argument at the end of the command line (outside of the quotes) prevents the Assistant from starting the EWS / Web Services webpage on your browser.

Optional

  • Once the new shortcut is created:  Right-Click on the shortcut > Properties > Change Icon
  • When you select "Change Icon" you might see an error message indicating there are no icons for the shortcut - continue on and select from your personal collection or pick an icon from those provided by the system.

Example

Shortcut_Assistant_Monet_1Shortcut_Assistant_Monet_1

Pin HP Smart for Windows to the Taskbar

Windows key (Start screen)

Find HP Smart Tile or search the list for HP Smart

Right-Click on the Tile / program

More > Pin to Taskbar

Bonus Section

Pin shortcut to Start – even if the “Pin to Start” selection is missing

Add / copy your shortcut to:

C:\Users\<Account>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

Click Start > all apps > scroll the list and find the “new” application > Right-Click and PIN to Start
