Officejet Pro 8710 printer.  When I try to scan to send an email from the display on the printer I am asked for a PIN.  I don't remember it.  The screen tells me to go to the person who set up the printer.  Well guess what?  That's me.  I have tried all of the PINs I might normally use with no luck.  There is no reset PIN option offered, just continuous "Wrong PIN" messages.

Is there a default PIN used for setup?  Is there a way to recover or reset the PIN?

Thanks

Hi @ neoflyer,

I'd like to help

Let's perform a reset on the printer and set up scan to email again

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
  • In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Let's perform a semi -full reset on the printer, the reset will restore the printer to default settings.

  • Press the Power button to turn the Printer On.
  • Press BL, BL, BL, BL (Bottom left icon. The “return” icon which may not be highlighted. Look very closely to find it and tap on it 4 times) Buttons, in sequence.
  • Touch Support Menu.
  • Select Reset Menu and Touch OK.
  • Select Semi-Full Reset and Touch OK.
  • Wait for unit to Power Down/Turn Off.
  • Press Power button to turn the Printer ON

Configure scan to email-

1. Open the HP Utility. The Utility is accessable either through a short cut in the dock or from the Hewlett-Packard folder in the Applications folder.

2. On the left of the HP Utility highlight the OfficeJet Pro X that will be configured. Then locate the Scan to E-mail icon at the bottom of the window on the right. Click on the Scan to E-mail icon.

3. This will open Scan to E-mail configuration options.

4. Click on the Begin Scan to E-mail Setup... button. This will launch the embeded web server (EWS) for the OfficeJet Pro X in the system's default web browser. Click on the Scan tab at the top and then Scan to Email Setup.

There may be a warning presented about going to a secure web page. Click ok on the warning.

5. Click the Outgoing Email Profiles. This is where the mail server information will be configured.

6. Click New.

7. This will begin the shortcut/account configuration process.

8. Enter the email address for the account that will be used for sending the scanned images/documents from the OfficeJet Pro X. Enter the display name for the shortcut that will be available on the front control panel of the OfficeJet. An optional 4 digit security PIN can also be configured here. This PIN would be required to allow sending from the device. When the appropriate fields are configured click Next.

9. Here the actual email server (SMTP) information needs to be configured.

10. This information is used to authentic the OfficeJet to the mail server so that scanned documents can be delivered. This is configured just like an email client on the Macintosh would be. The information can be easily obtained from the email service provider or by referencing a previously set up email account on the Macintosh. Once everything is properly entered click Next.

11. The following window will setup whether a copy of the email sent from the OfficeJet will be copied to the account used to send the email. Configure this option as desired and click Next.

12. Verify the settings represented on the summary screen and if they are all correct click on the Save and Test option.

13. The OfficeJet will attempt to contact the configured SMTP server using the specified credentials to verify the ability to send email.

14. If all is successful the Profiles screen will appear with the new Scan to Email profile in the list.

15. The OfficeJet Pro X is now configured to send emails directly from the front control panel of the MFP.

Note- the image might contain a different but the steps are the same.
