Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Is there a way to straighten images that you’ve scanned with HP Smart? I used to be able to do this by selecting edit, crop, then dragging my mouse along the bottom of the image, causing it to rotate by degrees. But since I got the newest version of the app for Mac, I can no longer do this. I see the degree marks at the bottom of the image after selecting edit then crop, but I cannot use them to straighten it. Any advice?

Hi @CBC5,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're looking to straighten scanned images using the HP Smart app with an HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 All-In-One Printer, here's a general guideline on how you might achieve this. Keep in mind that the user interface or features may have changed since my last update, so you might need to adapt these steps to the current version of the app.

  • Install and Open HP Smart App: If you haven't already, install the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device and set up your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 printer with the app.
  • Scan the Document: Use the HP Smart app to scan the document or image you want to straighten. Make sure to scan it as straight as possible, but if it's slightly skewed, you can adjust it later.
  • Edit the Scanned Document: Once the document is scanned, it will likely be displayed within the HP Smart app. Look for an option that allows you to edit or enhance the scanned document. This might be labeled as "Edit," "Enhance," or something similar.
  • Straighten the Image: Within the editing options, there should be a feature that allows you to adjust the orientation or alignment of the scanned image. This feature might be called "Rotate," "Straighten," or similar. Use this feature to adjust the image to a straight orientation.
  • Save or Apply Changes: After you have straightened the image, make sure to save or apply the changes. The image should now be properly aligned.
  • Export or Share: Once the image is straightened and edited to your satisfaction, you can export, save, or share the edited document using the appropriate options within the HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

rotate does just that, rotates the image (i think 1/4) turn each time,  there is nothing that says straighten,  i will continue to experiment,

yes there is.. at least on the Mac. it may be similar on PC>.

HP's reply did not help me.

Someone else suggested using "Rotate." "Rotate" merely rotates the image. It does not straighten it.

Finally, someone suggested using the wheel on the Mac mouse to straighten the image. I am using a Mac, but my mouse (a Magic Mouse) does not have a wheel. I tried moving my finger over the surface of the mouse to straighten the image, but this did not work.

Any other ideas? Thank you.

i suspect it is a problem with this iteration of hp smart that they will repair eventually.  try the hp easy scan app, for straightening. that app works.

I have the Magic Mouse too.  Move the mouse pointer to the "Zero"  with your index finger centered on the mouse and you'll see the small boxes appear, move the index finger up or down as if you're scrolling up or down on a web page.  If you move it slower, the image should adjust slower.  It can be a little buggy sometimes and It does take a little practice.  I'm actually upset that HP has the feature and no documentation on it whatsoever..

One more thing.. It may depend on WHICH version you have of the HP Smart software. I believe the previous version I had, you moved the mouse to the Number Zero in the middle of the dots, left click (and hold)  and move the mouse to the left or right.  I forgot about that.  If the way I suggested doesn't work.. try that..  (IF moving it to the left or right doesn't work, It may be moving it up or down.. I can't remember as it's been a while).  There is a way to do it if you see the number zero and the dots because that's what they are there for.

Webraider1972,

Yes! You solved my problem! The mouse click and hold way worked perfectly on my computer. I think I did a right mouse click, in fact. The other way "sort of" worked—I could rotate the image in one direction (but not the other). I don't know how you figured this out! It wasn't intuitive at all and, like you said, there are no directions explaining how to do this. Why must things be so complicated? Anyway, I'm very grateful to you. Thank you so much!

Actually, I tried it again and found that I don't need to press on the mouse. Simply positioning the cursor at zero then scrolling on the mouse surface makes it effortless. I am so glad to know this. Thank you again!
