Now that my kids are homeschooling, i need to regularly scan documents to email teachers. I am using a smartask to email my kids' teachers but currently have to manually change the scan name to the family name. Is it possible to change the default file name that is sent in scan to email? I have tried changing the file name in Scan/scan to email/email options but when i use the smarttask to scan, the default file name of 'scan' continues to be used. Please help!

Hi,
Apologies for jumping in.
HP Smart Tasks does not allow such functionality, the filename is preconfigured and cannot be changed.
Your printer model also supports Digital Filing @teresab108, you may set up scanning to Email using Digital filing instead, this feature allows selecting a preconfigured default file name for the scan jobs:
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03862727
To change the filename, from the EWS page of the printer, go to Scan > Scan to Email > Email Options and change the Default File Name as you need.

@teresab108 Welcome to HP Community!
I understand that you would like to know how to change the scan default file name.
Do now worry. I will try to fix the issue.
Use the Destination section in HP Scan to find or change where your scan files are saved.
NOTE:
If you are scanning from the printer control panel, use HP Scan to find the default folder your scans are saved to.
1. In HP Scan, select a Save as shortcut, and then click More.
2. lick the Destination tab.
The folder your scans save to displays under Save To Folder.
3. To change the default folder, click Browse.
4. Navigate to the folder you want to save your scans to, and then click OK.
5. To save the new folder as the default location for the shortcut, click the Save icon next to the shortcut.
6. Repeat these steps for any other Save as shortcuts.

Thank you for your response. Perhaps II didn't make it clear that I'm trying to change the default file name for the Scan to Email function. I have a smart task: 'Scan to Email" so that i don't have to save the file on my desktop first. The default name in the scan to email function of the printer is 'scan.pdf'. I want that to be something different.

I don't want editable text on scan. Also, this option would have the document content dictate the naming structure - this is NOT desirable. Instead of all scanned files being called 'scan.pdf', i want all of the scanned files to be called 'jdoe_mmddyy.pdf'. Is that possible?

Thank you so much! I wrongly assumed that the settings in the 'Scan to email' configured in the EWS would carry over to the smart task... it does not. Thank you for hearing me and giving me useful guidance! I can now save several minutes (and frustration) every day!!!
