HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw/fn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I installed drivers HP_LaserJet_Pro_MFP_M127-M128 to use 2 printers and scanners: HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw and ...fn version. There is a "HP Scan" software to use scanners, after start it displays three options:

HP Scan Drv XYZ.png

How to change above names to more meaningful like "Scanner at Paul Office"? I'd like to know which scanner is where without "translating" empty/#2/#3 every time.

@Artur_,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you wanted to know how to name the particular scanner so that it is easy to identify.

Let's go through a few steps to resolve this issue.

You need to rename the printer icon in the control panel.

To rename a printer:

  1. Click Start button, type Devices and Printers and select same from the list.

  2. Right-click a printer, and then click Printer properties.

  3. Click the General tab, and then type the new name (for example  "Scanner at Paul Office") in the text box.

  4. Click Apply/OK.

Let me know how this works.

You have a good day ahead.

Hi,

I changed both printers names, adding underlined words:

but "HP Scan" application still shows different names:

HP Scan Drv XYZ.png

Same after Windows restart.

"HP Scan" does not get these "Scan Drv" names from "Control Panel - Devices and Printers", they are somewhere else - I couldn't find their location.

@Artur_, Thanks for your response and time.

Kudos to you for trying out the steps.

Try changing the name from EWS page.

 1. Open an internet browser type printer's IP address.

2. Should bring you to the printer's status page.

3. Select network tab at the top.

4.  Left-hand side under advanced settings select Bonjour.

5.  Under Bonjour, Service Name change this to something you would like.

6.  Select Apply.

Let me know if this helps!

Cheers! 🙂

 Hi,

Bonjour was already active:

There is "Network Identification" page, but names here do not correspond to choices given by "HP Scan":

As you mentioned you changed the printer name however the issue still persists.

Try deleting the printer from the control panel device and printer. Click on the printer at the top of the screen you have remove the device. Click remove device to remove the printer.

Remove the printer from root level.

1. Navigate to Start >Type Devices and Printers in the Search > Select it from the results

2. Highlight your printer object and Right Click

3. Choose Remove Device

4. Highlight something else from the list

5. Click the Print Server Properties button from the toolbar

6. Select the Drivers Tab

7. Highlight the appropriate print driver

8. Click Remove

9. Check the Remove Driver and Driver Package option when prompted

10. Click OK

Please update the printer software using this link.

Once after the printer is installed try changing the name of your printer.
