Hi,
I've setup a shortcut to scan documents on my OfficeJet Pro printer. When I run the shortcut directly at the printer without using any app how to change the scan settings? By default this is set to do 1-sided scanning of letter format using 300 DPI. See picture. However, I cannot change any of these settings. Tapping on them on the display just does nothing.
Especially being unable to switch to 2-sided scanning is an issue. And having letter-format as the only option doesn't fit the regional settings that should apply.
Appreciate any help!
Thanks

Thanks for the reply.
Anyway, as soon as Cloud Destinations gets activated the EWS strips down option for scanning to USB network folder. For both you can define scan default settings. And for both option you can change them in the control panel of the printer when choosing such a scan destination.
This all is not possible for any cloud destinations. Seeing the same screens on the control panel but no option is clickable anymore. This is either a major bug in the current firmware or bad design.
Just look at Epson for example. Scan to OneDrive work there like the cloud shortcuts should work here: Select a destination, change some scan settings get the scan result uploaded to whatever cloud you selected. Plain simple.

Welcome to the HP Community --
There are a large number of "OfficeJet Pro" printers --
If the following does not apply, perhaps tell us which printer model is yours.
A few of the OfficeJet Pro printers include automatic 2-sided Scan.
Printers that do not support automatic 2-sided scan depend on manual scan first side(s) - Flip - scan 2nd side(s).
Shortcuts and Quick Sets are built-to-order, that is, (you) create the Shortcut or Quick Set as needed for the individual task set.
=============================
HP Smart / HP App Shortcuts
HP Smart / HP App Shortcuts are static --
This means the Shortcut completes the job the way the shortcut was written.
There is no "on the fly" method to change the Shortcut's instruction.
You can, of course, create different shortcuts for different job configurations.
HP Smart / HP App Shortcuts can be created for one or more task operations:
Save
HP_Smart_Shortcuts_Cloud_Save_PDF_11
=========================
Printer Scan
Select printers support SMTP / Digital Send "Scan to Network Folder" via Quick Sets profile (set of instructions".
Scan to Network Folder is a specialty scan feature that allows the creation of a Quick Set profile that can be used to configure a scan job and send (save) the scanned content to a destination folder that is defined in the Quick Set.
On these same printers, there is a companion setup that defines the Scan to Network Folder > Default Job Options
EWS_9135_Quick_Sets_Network_Folder_OneDrive_6
EWS_9135_Scan_to_Network_Folder_Default_Job_Options_5

Hi @Dragon-Fur
thanks for your reply. I own a OfficeJet 9132e.
Given your remarks:
- the printer has automatic 2-sided scanning. Works perfectly when using a computer and the HP App.
- I’m talking about the shortcuts that get created in the HP App as this is the only way to scan to some cloud destinations like Google Drive or OneDrive or even to the HP Cloud.
If these shortcuts are meant to be static, shouldn’t it be possible to define the scan settings in the shortcut itself then? Currently I can only select what kind of file format to produce (JPEG, DOC or PDF). But nowhere I can set the document format to A4, for example.
Given that it does not make any sense to have a static shortcut that has a hardcoded document format of Letter when the whole printer is configured to use German region.
And even when scanning to the HP Cloud even there is a „settings“ button shown on the printer‘s display but just nothing happens when clicking it. So this cannot be meant to be completely static.
Another example is that the scan resolution is fixed to 300DPI when using a shortcut but fixed to 150DPI when scanning to HP Cloud. Why? And why should I not be allowed to change the scan resolution.
To me it seems that the firmware still has some major bugs. Or do you know any option to define a shortcut that scans using 600DPI, as an example?
Cheers

You are welcome.
Static was obviously a poor word choice.
Perhaps replace with "limited" or something that means "not all encompassing".
OK -
Printer: HP OfficeJet Pro 9132e All-in-One Printer
HP Smart / HP App Shortcuts are limited in scope --
As you have found, a shortcut can include
Save
plus
Cloud destination account and folder
File Type
For example
No where in the Shortcut setup is there a choice to select Paper Size / Type, Source, or original content type or size.
Actions outside of the Shortcut's control must be included in the job setup steps prior to calling the shortcut.
and
HP Smart / HP App does not understand the concept of Defaults except those that are set elsewhere and can impact how HP Smart behaves.
For example,
Should you want to control the Paper Size / Type -- and, for those printers with more than one tray - Tray settings, use the Embedded Web Server - EWS - Tray and Paper
Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
Section Paper > Trays > click on Tray to configure
Next (as available)
Section Print > Default Print Options > Select default options / tray
EWS_9135_Tray_and_Paper_8
EWS_9135_Print_Default_Print_Options_8
======================================
Scan Defaults
HP Smart - DPI assignment
No, I do not know a way to define an HP Smart Shortcut to include settings that are not already included in the supported options - for example, settings outside of Print, Email, Save, Cloud Destination, File Type
Perhaps go back to EWS and make sure your Default Job options are set as can be done..
Reminder
Resolution / DPI choices differ when selecting one input source or another.
For example, higher resolutions are available when using the Flatbed / glass.
ADF / Feeder resolutions are limited to these settings provided in the hardware.
If all else fails,
Consider running HP Smart / HP App from your device -
Defaults are still limited to those settings that can be made elsewhere ( for example EWS - Tray and Paper )
AND
Some settings must be selected each time
General Example - HP Smart - Windows - Scan
HP_Smart_Win_Scan_Document_Save_14
General Example - HP Smart - Mobile - Scan Options
HP_Smart_Mobile_Scan_PDF-Image_Options_11
-------------------------------------------------
What about Print Defaults?
EWS > Section Print > Default Print Options
EWS_9135_Print_Default_Print_Options_8
======================================
Why, indeed?
I generally fail when trying to answer "why should I" or "why will it not" .
Falling back on "it's designed that way" might suffice, might not be true if I've missed something, OR - even if true - the answer might simply prove irritating in the context of "you cannot have what you want".
