Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

Officejet Pro 8710
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The scan program on my old Officejet 6500 allowed me to precisely set the output size of my photo, keeping proportions correct.

I cannot find a way to do this with Hp Scan Extended or HP Smart software with the Officejet Pro 8710. It is very important that I be able to set the width of the output to a certain size (and length automatically proportional.

Is there a way to do this? Is there other software I can use to do this at the time of the scan?

Yes, I know I can resize the image afterward with photo editing software, but what I loved about Hp was that it made the extra step unnecessary. We seem to have moved backward on functionality.

@Cheneyjoan,

It is great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

I understand that you want to resize the photo before scanning. I would like to inform you that it is a software limitation and in the new software, this option is not available.

If any other questions arise, please feel free to write back to me.

@Cheneyjoan,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your concern and thank you for using this forum, it is a wonderful place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are unable to find the options to resize the photo after scanning.

I’d love to help!

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the printer was working fine?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

While I wait for the answers, I recommend you follow the below steps and check whether the issue is resolved.

I recommend you save the image as photo (image) or document

Page Size (for items placed on the scan glass) = Entire Scan Area

The wording varies depending on the program you are using.

Example: HP Scan (printer software)

Printer_Assistant_Scan_to_JPG_1.JPG

HP scan Extended includes an "auto detect" feature that is particularly nice for grabbing photo image(s) from the glass.  The "auto" feature scans the photo at the size detected.

To take full advantage of this feature, do set the Page Size to "Auto Detect Size

HP_Scan_Extended_Shortcut_1.JPG".

HP_Scan_Extended_Shortcut_1A.JPG

Let me know how it works and you have a good day ahead.

I just acquired the ojp8710 as a replacement for my old printer.

I have seen the pages in the manual you reference, but that is not what I am wanting to do.

Here is an example:

The original image is 3.38" x 4.21" and I want the output size to be 8.00" x (whatever the locked aspect size would be without me having to calculate it.) This keeps the photo from

As I said, the old officejet did this with its software, but I cannot see how to do it now, nor can I see how to use the older software with this printer. Sad.

I will accept your answer, though I am deeply disappointed in hp and feel as though I have wasted my money on this machine. There was no where is the product description to warn me of the loss of functionality. I need the printer, but will be looking elsewhere in the future for scanners and printers.

However, I appreciate you quick response.
