Q. 1. When scanning a photograph, the finished scan shows up as 2 separate parts instead of the whole picture.
Q. 2. I cannot find any settings to increase the scan resolution above 200 DPI

Hi @Blue-sage,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! It's a great place to find answers.
I reviewed your post and I understand that when you scan the image is showing in two separate files.
Don’t worry, we will work together to resolve this issue and It’s a pleasure to assist you in this regard.
In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.
- When was the last time the printer was working fine?
- Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
- Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?
Meanwhile, I recommend you check the step 4 and step 6 in advance scanning options in the below link and check if it helps.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care.
Cheers!

After I posted I made the following changes.
installed drivers 10.10 for Mavericks (latest ones availablefrom HP ) this did not work and in fact made the problem worse, so I restored to yesterday on time maching before I installed the drivers.
Problem remained.
I then found a possible fix , but the instructions given were not available on my Mac. Pwerhaps my mid-2010 mini is too old for that one.
I looked and there are no advanced options showing. In fact there are no options at all showing on Easy Scan app. or HP scan app.
I tried selecting pohotos, documants, no luck.
I opened System Preferences/Printers/sanner, image correction none, type automatic
I selected 200dpi, still split.
repeated selecting combine into a single document, no luck.
increased to 300 dpi, incredibly slow scan. repeated at 200 dpi still very slow. last time it was much faster at this dpi.
unplugged usb cord and turned printer off, then turned bck on and repeated, suddenly easy scan worked fine, however after 5 scans it reverted to splitting the imags again. I quit for the day.
This AM I started again. beginning with a Mac OS update. then I found a post somewhere that said to use image capture. 1st time I'd seen that, so I tried it and it worked perfectly for 15consecutive scans. I stopped scanning.
Right now I just opened HP scanner from sytem Preferences and scanned an image using 200 dpi setting and 2 different size options- A4 and custom.
Both worked fine and I am at a total loss as to what happened, however the problem, at least for now, has been resolved.
Thank you for you help and if I can provide any more information on this recurrent malady, I will try as best as I can. I am by no means proficient with devices at all.
