How to use ADF to scan on my brand new printer

I cannot seem to get the ADF feature to automatically scan from the feeder.  I just purchased the printer 2 weeks ago and this is the first time I tried using the feature.  Can someone help me?

To automatically scan from either the flatbed or the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder), the application or software you are using must understand (and be able to use) a method of choosing one method over the other before you start the current scan operation.

HP Smart - Mobile - does not understand the concept of Custom Presets to select the source before the app is started and Scan is selected.

Windows

HP Smart (application) does not understand the concept of selecting the source (flatbed or ADF) ahead of time.  This limitation means you must select the source after you select to Scan and before you actually scan the content.

Depending on the type of Full Driver printer software provided for your printer,

The full driver includes either a standard version of HP Scan or (perhaps) a version of HP Scan commonly known as HP Universal Scan. 

Both HP Scan versions provide the same essential scan services - both understand the concept of custom Shortcuts / Presets that support creating a "Do it this way" setup for your scan jobs.

If asked, opt for the Full Driver to be installed.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

The installation of the full driver generally adds at least one, possibly two shortcuts to the Desktop.

 Note:  Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and HP Scan are dependent on printer model and supported software options.
