Edits - Minor updates to content

For those printers that support HP Smart for Windows and Smart Tasks,

Smart Tasks for "Save To" are supported as presented, that is, the supported storage options are listed in the application.

If HP Smart for Windows is installed on your computer,

Additional help for Smart Tasks is available in HP Smart for Windows > Tile  Help and Support > Smart Tasks

NOTE

Not all printers support Smart Tasks.  If the option is missing from your HP Smart Application, your printer does not support the feature.

Answer

At this writing, there is no direct "save to computer" option in HP Smart.

The application supports save to various save-to-cloud options (for example, OneDrive and others).

Step 2:  Create a Smart Task

Add one of the supported storage options to your computer.

For example, OneDrive is a Microsoft product.  OneDrive is therefore is fully compatible with Windows 10.

Although the file(s) are saved to the OneDrive storage (cloud), you have to option to have those files available on your computer.  The settings in OneDrive determine how you set up and access your data.

Thanks for the quick response. My previous equipment (HP Officejet Pro 8500) came with some great software and will be truly missed.

You are welcome.

It is true that different printers, both old and new tech, do support different options.

HP Smart > Smart Tasks is a specialty feature available on some platforms (printer models).

Windows 10 supports a variety of Scan software.

Consider

HP Scan and Capture - Windows Store - Requires Windows 8 or higher

NAPS2 – “Not Another PDF Scanner”

  • Download-Save-Install > NAPS2
  • Not another PDF Scanner – free program scans PDF files and image(s) as .jpeg or PDF file(s).
  • Includes an OCR feature – may need Ghostscript add-on (See NAPS2 forum entry)
  • Read the Support pages for information
  • Download, save, and install the NAPS2 software to use.

Webscan – located in the Embedded Web Server (EWS) – No additional software

If the printer is on the network,

  • Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
  • Tab Settings > Security > Administrator Settings > make sure Webscan is checked / enabled
  • Tab Scan > Webscan
