Hi, my printer fax scanner was facing fine, all of a sudden fax is not working. I had spectrum out they gave me a new modem, I checked for updates (it says none) though this is wireless setup so I’m not hooked to an OS. One repair tech said that I can receive a fax but to send I need to swap out the two lines in the back. This makes no sense I used to go from modem out to printer then from printer out to my cordless phone it always worked. I’m also getting a weird message that states the fax machine does not have a phone cord plugged in but we plugged three different cords to it. I can dial out and hear a dial tone but I can not receive which is most important. I’ve uninstalled and reset up to factory defaults and I can print fine from a chrome book or my phone. Thank you for the info!

Hi @MomOfFive50,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've already done a fair bit of troubleshooting, but let's see if we can pinpoint the issue and get your fax working again. Here are a few steps you can try:
Check Phone Line Connections: Ensure that the phone line from the wall jack is securely connected to the "Line In" port on your printer. Also, make sure that the phone line from the "Phone" port on your printer is connected to your cordless phone.
Test Phone Line: Plug a regular telephone into the wall jack to verify that you have a dial tone. If you don't hear a dial tone, there might be an issue with the phone line itself.
Fax Settings: Check the fax settings on your printer to ensure they are configured correctly. Make sure the fax mode is set to "Fax" and not "Phone" or "Fax/Tel."
Fax Line Configuration: If you're using a VoIP service (like Spectrum), there might be specific configurations required for faxing. Check with your service provider to ensure your fax line is properly configured for faxing.
Test Fax Reception: Have someone send a test fax to your fax number to see if you're able to receive it. This will help determine if the issue is with sending or receiving faxes.
Reset Printer: Try resetting your printer to its factory defaults again. Sometimes, this can resolve configuration issues.
Update Firmware: Even though you mentioned there are no updates available, it's worth checking again to see if there are any firmware updates for your printer. Sometimes, updates can fix compatibility issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
