HP Easy scan Version 1.10.0 (201013) will not scan from my printer, connected via WiFi. Works find from "HP Smart", but I "used to" prefer Easy Scan, as it was more flexible, easier to use, and had a better interface.
any clues?

Thanks for clarifying.
May you scan using Image Capture with no issues, or can you see any specific behavior there?

What is your macOS version? is it update with the latest 11.5.2 or 11.5? try installing the latest updates if your mac is not fully up to date
Try restarting your Mac and check if you may see any difference then.
Also, although a bit different behavior, try below steps of running HP Scanner 3 from the Library folder and then try scannign again, may you then see any difference?

my operating system version: Big Sur 11.5
my printer/scanner: HP Officejet Pro 8600
my hp easy scan version: HP Easy scan Version 1.10.0 (201013)
my error message: "preparing to scan", which never ends
solutions tried:
- rebooting
- ensuring I have latest version of everything
observations:
- scanning DOES work from "HP smart"
- "Image Capture" does not show any scanners available, and I see no way to add a device in that app. The HP 8600 is obviously available in the system, as it works from "HP Smart"
- I have nothing called "HP Scanner 3" on my computer.

ok, I found HP Scanner 3, followed the instructions and still I get the same problem, HP Easy Scan never starts scanning. It continually says "preparing to scan". How do I make "HP Easy Scan" ....... "Easy" ?

wow.
about to launch this printer out the window.
somehow I got "HP Easy start". (hehe .. "easy"... hehe)
I double click on it, first screen pops and then closes down just as fast.
then went here:
I uninstalled HP drivers with the suggested uninstall app. clicked on the link to download "HewletPackardPrinterDrivers.pkg.dmg".
In my download folder I have the file to be downloaded, sitting there, and the little "progress" circle won't budge. Sitting forever at zero bytes. javascript is enabled. there was a comment somewhere about checking security and privacy, but I see no place to allow this, or do anything about it. firewall is off. In Privacy, "HP easy start" is included for Full Disk Access. in the "Files and Folders" section the "+" is grayed out, so cannot add it there, if that's what's needed.
none of this is very "Easy" !
rebooted, checked for Mac OS updates, went for a walk. restarted my router.
very frustrated.
now I can't scan AND I can't print.
Yay!!
